Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as freshness, cost, and community building. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'percentile of small stores' is unclear and lacks specific explanation. While the position is clear, the supporting points could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, but the overall depth of analysis remains at a mid-level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Beside that'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, for example, 'these' in the second paragraph refers to multiple nouns, making the connection slightly ambiguous. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, but the use of cohesive devices lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'organic', 'domestic goods', and 'economical level'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'percentile of small stores' (likely meaning 'profitability' or 'market share') and 'cheapness' (a less natural noun form). Some phrasing is repetitive, and the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, preventing the essay from demonstrating the precision and flexibility needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('local products are become'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing ('shed some lights'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is recommended.
