Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, most people are keen to purchase local made products rather than the imported ones. In this essay, i will explain what reasons can be taken into consideration for this trend and whether it is a positive or negative trend.

To commence with the reason that are responsible for choosing local goods and the first and foremost is cheaper in price. To explain, most of local products are cheaper then the imported products because imported products price include the more tax then the local one as it covers the imported cost as well. secondly, fresh food is another big reason for this. To illustrate this, people often find local products more fresh as compared to imported goods because these goods made in that country and available fresh on time. Thus, residents have priority towards products from local shops. To explain this, Jammu Kashmir apples are more fresh and cheaper in that place but costly in other nations.

In my Opinion, This trend has more positive impacts than negative and the predominant reason for this is, employment opportunities. To elaborate this, when manufacturing factories are opened in local area for production it creates job opportunities to the residents which helps people to up their standard of living. Moreover, when products made with country it benefits the government to reduce import and transport expenses which boost country's economy. Thus, these points has positive impact on the nation development.

To recapitulate, in this modern era, people have choice of buying local made items then from other country products which creates employment opportunities for local people and boost overall economy of that country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local goods and the evaluation of the trend. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the price of local versus imported goods is a bit simplistic and repetitive. The example of 'Jammu Kashmir apples' is relevant but could be better integrated into a more formal argument. While the main points are present, they lack the depth and sophistication required for a higher band score. The essay covers all requirements of the task, but the supporting arguments remain at a basic level of development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'secondly', and 'To recapitulate' are used to link ideas. However, some of these transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the discussion of fresh food and the specific example of apples. While the overall structure is logical and easy to follow, the use of cohesive devices is not always flexible or sophisticated enough to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'products', 'goods', and 'local'. Some collocations are inaccurate, such as 'local made products' (should be 'locally-made') and 'up their standard of living' (should be 'improve' or 'raise'). The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the overall lexical range is limited. To improve, the student should focus on using more varied synonyms and more natural collocations to express ideas with greater precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'the reason that are responsible' (subject-verb agreement), 'cheaper then' (should be 'than'), and 'when products made with country' (missing verb/preposition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is recommended.
