Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, some customers are significantly prefer to purchase local goods rather than imported alternatives. There are several reason for this trend, including trust in local products and emotional attachment to domestic goods. However, I consider this is a negative development because it hinders economic growth.

One of the major reasons of buying local is trust in them. People prefer to buy local goods, as they feel confident about the quality of products. Because local products are free from contamination, people feel healthier and safer regarding those goods. Another reason for choosing products from own nation is emotional attachment with the local community. Relying solely on local products encourages people to attach with community rather than taking foreign products. For instance, in Himachal Pradesh local people prefer to eat apples that are grown locally instead of imported ones, because they feel that apples are fresher and healthier.

However, this trend is negative, as it limits economic growth of the nation. In global market, countries grow when conduct business with international countries. In this way, government enables to provide improved living and valuable job opportunities. Moreover, people get variety of goods and have different experience if they try goods from other countries. To exemplify, United States do imports and exports with different nations, which gives opportunity to develop economically.

In conclusion, although choosing domestic goods contributes to satisfaction and emotional attachment, it limits economic development. I believe countries should trade with other nations so that countries can grow and people living styles would improved.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as trust in local quality and economic growth through trade. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding economic growth is a bit simplistic and could have been expanded with more nuanced reasoning. The position is clear throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarises the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that the supporting arguments are more thoroughly explained and linked to the broader implications of the trend.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'To exemplify', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is coherent. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationships between sentences are more fluid and less predictable.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'domestic goods', 'economic growth', and 'international countries'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'attach with community' instead of 'engage with the community' or 'connect with the community'. Some phrases are also slightly repetitive. To achieve a higher score, the writer should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and demonstrate better control over collocations and idiomatic expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'some customers are significantly prefer' (should be 'significantly prefer'), 'There are several reason' (should be 'reasons'), and 'United States do imports' (should be 'does'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
