Student answer (Band 6.0)
The growing trend of buying locally sourced products has attracted considerable attention. In my opinion this is majorly a positive development because of high import costs and supporting local businesses. This essay will discuss the possible reasons behind this trend in the paragraphs below followed by a conclusion.
There are several reasons why residents are more inclined towards purchasing products from locally owned businesses. The main reason is rising costs related to imported goods. In other words, whenever a commodity is bought from a foreign supplier, taxes, shipping charges and tariffs are imposed on the item. Which increases the price dramatically. For example, a car german car imported in India costs two times more than the actual price.
Another contributing factor is that individuals are willing to support domestic vendors instead of international suppliers. This makes them more competitive in terms of quality and freshness of the product. For instance, during the covid, India imposed restrictions on buying from Chinese stores to support small shops in India in the time of pandemic, which lead to drastic decline in the imports from China. Consequently, Till this date, residents of India are not willing to purchase Chinese goods and source from small businesses , as the quality is better, durable and reliable.
In my opinion, the reasons mentioned above lead us to the outcome of less import rates, in a positive direction.
In conclusion, the development of local production and purchasing is largely driven by the fact that many people are now focusing on the financial as well as economic growth of their countries, and I consider this a positive sign of progress.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention import costs and supporting local businesses, the explanation could be more nuanced. For instance, the example regarding the car import costs is a bit simplistic, and the discussion on the pandemic's impact on trade is a relevant but slightly narrow example. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended with more detailed analysis rather than just stating the points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In other words' and 'Consequently', to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where sentence structure impacts flow, such as the sentence fragment 'Which increases the price dramatically.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are complete will help the flow of your writing appear more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'commodity', 'tariffs', and 'domestic vendors'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'majorly a positive development' (should be 'primarily' or 'largely') and 'Till this date' (should be 'To this date'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and avoid informal phrasing to enhance the academic tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'a car german car' contains a repetition error, and 'which lead to drastic decline' should be 'which led to a drastic decline'. Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as starting a sentence with 'Which'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
