Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying reasons for buying local products (such as freshness, health benefits, and affordability) and discussing why this is a positive trend (job creation and economic/currency impacts). The position is clear throughout the essay, and the ideas are extended and supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as the avoidance of chemical preservatives and the reduction of import duties. While some points, like the currency appreciation, are slightly oversimplified, the core task requirements are thoroughly covered, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are structured into appropriate paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing distinct points, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore', although there are minor mechanical transitions or punctuation issues like comma splices (e.g., 'import duty imposed on them resultantly, they are cost-friendly'). Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different arguments, supporting an overall coherent structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision to allow the task to be communicated effectively. Less common items such as 'consumption pattern', 'import duty', and 'employment opportunities' are attempted. However, there are some word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'ailments such as constipation' (constipation is typically a symptom or condition rather than an ailment in this context) and 'value of currency will appreciate because a country need not pay'. Spelling is generally accurate, but minor lexical slips prevent access to higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional-like reasoning. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as run-on sentences and comma splices (e.g., 'Since, it does not involves days', 'value of domestic currency also increased because to do trade...'). Subject-verb agreement errors also occur, such as 'it does not involves' and 'country need not pay'. These errors occasionally cause minor strain for the reader, fitting the Band 6 profile.
