Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years purchasing goods from local market has become increasingly common instead of to buy imported products. There are several reasons of this increasing trend and I believe this is a positive development.

Purchasing the goods from local market is very common nowdays. One of the major reason is buying local products can have positive affect on society by strengthing local communities. This is because local businesses provide more opportunity to interact with each other and support neighbours. For exampple, when people regularly buy vegetables from local farmers , they can develop stronger connection with farmers and other communities. Therefore, buying locally produced good is beneficial to strengthen the local community.

Moreover, buying local products contribute the local economy growth and develop more job opportunities. This is because when individuals buy goods from local shopkeepers, money remain within then community which boost the local economy. For example, when consumers buy products from local farmers and small shops, it helps buisnesses to generate the income and hire more workers which create job opportunities. In addition, locally produced goods are often considered fresher goods as compare to imported goods because it has to less travel. For example, People generally prefer to buy locally produced vegetables as it travel less and vegeables are generally free from pesticides.

I believe that it is a positive trend because it helpsboth the local economy and the environment. This is because when consumers buy loccally produced goods, more money, remain within then community, helps small businesses grow and create more job opportunities. Moreover, due to less travel, it generates less polloution which saves then environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by clearly identifying the reasons why consumers choose local goods, such as community building and economic growth, and explicitly states a position that this is a positive trend. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as buying vegetables from local farmers and small shops. However, there is a tendency to repeat points across paragraphs, particularly regarding economic growth and freshness, which prevents the response from reaching higher bands. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear and consistent position throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a generally clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing reasons and the positive standpoint, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or repetitive, relying heavily on transitional phrases like 'This is because', 'For example', and 'Moreover' within almost every paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression is occasionally hindered by repetitive reasoning.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'strengthening local communities', 'contribute the local economy growth', and 'pesticides'. However, there are noticeable lexical and collocational inaccuracies, such as 'contribute the local economy growth' (instead of 'contribute to local economic growth'), 'money remain within then community' (typographical and grammatical errors), and 'polloution'. Spelling errors like 'nowdays', 'exampple', 'buisnesses', 'loccally', and 'polloution' occur frequently, though communication is not impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'when people regularly buy vegetables from local farmers, they can develop stronger connection'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('money remain'), preposition errors ('contribute the local economy'), and articles ('freer goods as compare to imported goods'). Punctuation and spacing issues are also notable (e.g., double spaces and misplaced commas). These errors persist but do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message.
