IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area, rather than imported goods.

What are the reasons for this?

Is this a positive or a negative trend?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In current time period there are many developments in different different factors. Same as in goods factor, now people can also buy goods and product from all across the world by import and export method. But there are some consumers who still choosing to buy goods from local area. In this essay I would discuss about positive and negative points before drawing logical conclusion.

Importing goods from other country is becoming a trend in our country. But , in many cases people have to face several issues regarding delivery. In case delivery is on perfect date and sometime consumers have to face problems regarding working stage . Importing goods from other country is very costly then buying from local areas. After giving negative points , positive points would not be neglected. Some people choosing to buy products from local areas which is also time saving method. Because if you import anything from other country it will take several days to be delivered so it is easy to buy product from local area.

Secondly , buying products from local area will be less expensive than compared to imported product , also if consumer have any kind of problem they could easily exchange them from local shops. To make this more clear I want to give you an relevant example. Previous year I bought an expensive LED lamp from high standard. That lamp was imported from other country and gives luxury vibe, But after few days that lamp start sparking from edges. I visited showroom and complaint about this, they said that is non refundable and I lost my 10,000 rupees.

In conclusion, although in my opinion buying goods from local production area is a positive trend yet they are easy to deliver and under consumers budget.
