Student answer (Band 4.5)

Number of individuals are preferring to read e-books rather than paper books nowadays. Although this trend has drawbacks like increasing screening time, difficult to use for some users, I believe that the benefits it offer such as variety of topics, accessibility are far more significant.

On the one hand, readers are finding e-books more fascinating as they get multiple options to read and can easily search the the parts of the book from where the want to continue their reading. For instance, individals who prefer to read books during their leisure time, e-book serves them anytime and anywhere as it is more accessible to everyone as compared to books. Apart from this, hardcopies are sometimes heavy and big in size which makes it uncomfortable for the readers to take along with them in their bagpack.

On the other hand, paper books tend to be old fashioned to the folks who read books in their daily routine as it effects the condition of the papers and also depends on the avilability of the stock at book stores. To exemplify, many people have to wait for longer time for the physical book in the market after the date of launch and sometime their is limited inventory of the book which further creates problem for keen readers.

In conclusion, the modern e-book is more convenient and available at ease for the readers as compared to the traditional books which are difficult to manage and store. Therefore I believe that, the advantages clearly outweighs the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 2.0

You have presented a clear position throughout the response and attempted to address both parts of the prompt regarding e-books. However, your response has a significant issue: you answered a completely different essay prompt. The official task prompt asked about consumers buying local goods versus imported goods, whereas your essay discusses whether readers prefer e-books over paper books. Writing on a completely off-topic subject means the task has not been addressed according to the actual prompt provided. Consequently, Task Achievement is heavily impacted because you did not answer the given question.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Despite being off-topic, your essay exhibits a clear organizational structure. You divide your ideas into logical paragraphs, using transition markers such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments. However, cohesion sometimes feels a bit mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'e-book serves them anytime' where pronoun reference could be tighter. Overall, the structural layout is coherent, but the severe mismatch with the task limits how well the cohesive features function in context.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting words and phrases such as 'leisure time', 'fascinating', 'convenient', and 'traditional books'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'screening time' (intended screen time), 'bagpack' (backpack), 'effects' (affects), and 'avilability' (availability). These minor slips and spelling mistakes show limitations in precision and word choice. While communication is not severely impeded, the lexical resource remains at a modest level due to these recurring inaccuracies and occasional misuse of terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating clauses with 'although', 'as', and 'which'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, your opening sentence contains a clear error: 'Number of individuals are preferring' instead of 'A number of individuals prefer'. Other errors include 'benefits it offer' (instead of 'offers') and 'sometime their is limited inventory' (instead of 'there is'). While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your general meaning, they occur frequently enough to prevent you from reaching a higher band score.
