IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area, rather than imported goods.

What are the reasons for this?

Is this a positive or a negative trend?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the contemporary era, some customers are selecting to purchase local produced goods day by day, as campared to imported goods. There are various reasons behind this phenomenon like trust on making process and I think, it is a positive development .

To begin with, there are different reasons which prove that increasingly customers buying local produced items. Firstly, consumers can trust on goods amd material which they are using for the production of product is good or not. Nowadays, mostly large scale industries are using more chemical for making attractive product than others. In addition, these products are cost effective as compared to imported thing. For example, people placed an order for dress from china , then they had been charged for import duty and other taxes and increse the price of product.

However, it is a positive trend. When people start to buy goods from local area, then it would be beneficial for those people. Local people can earn good money and start their business to produce good quality product for their customers. For instance, fruit seller can setup proper shop from street stall. Furthermoe, people will get an oppurtunity to get a job. When customers are demanding more products, they will hire new workers for making product and handling the system of business like accountant, supervisors and so on.

To conclude, it is reiterated that customers are choosing to purchase good from their local areas due to trust on quality and cheap price. This is positive development for both customer and manfacutaring companies.
