Student answer (Band 5.5)

Large group of peoples are selecting goods that are made from their local place instead of buying luxury good which comes from other nation. There are many reason to this. Both the pros and cons are discussed below.

To begin with, ouf of all the reason, the foremost one is the increasing cost of goods due to increase in tariffs which is imposed by the President of Amreica. To this I mean, nearly fifty percent tariffs was imposed on steel, groceries, automotive and beer, because of this people has to spend more money on to consume the goods. Second reason is increasing Inscurance cost of their vehicles. To explain to this, there has been surge in vehicle usage for trasportation rather than using public transportation. These leads to cause many accidents and insurance prices went up due higher number of insurance claims.

I believe this has a positive impact. To prove my point, the buyers are locally exploring the prodcut within their local area. A good example for this is, earlier an automotive company Mazda, which halted their CX50 hybrid export to canada due to high tarriffs and launched CX5 model to cope up the demand by manufacturing locally in canada. In addition, canadian citizens are now exploring locally produced beers within their nation, instead of buying American beer brands. An earlier report shows that nearly thirty five percent of canadian citizens have banned selling the american brands in their store.

Thus to wrap up my discussion, it can be said that buying a domestic product and producing regional beer to support the nation will lead to become postive and growth of its own nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for buying local and offering a clear position that the trend is positive. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies heavily on specific, tangential examples, such as the discussion of tariffs imposed by the President of America and automotive manufacturing decisions. While the position is clear throughout, the explanation of reasons connects tangentially to broader economic factors rather than direct consumer motivations for choosing local goods. Ideas are supported, but there is a tendency to wander into specific news events rather than general consumer habits. Based on these descriptors, the response fits comfortably within Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, reasons, evaluation, and conclusion appropriately. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Second reason', and 'Thus to wrap up my discussion', though some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To this I mean' and 'To explain to this'. Referencing is generally clear, and logical progression is maintained between sentences, despite minor awkwardness in phrasing. Paragraphing is utilised sufficiently to structure the response, meeting the requirements for Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'tariffs', 'consumer', 'automotive', and 'domestic product'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'peoples' instead of 'people', 'ouf' instead of 'out', 'Inscurance' instead of 'insurance', 'trasportation' instead of 'transportation', and 'prodcut' instead of 'product'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Overall, the lexical range is sufficient to communicate basic points, landing the response at a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('These leads to cause many accidents', 'people has to spend'), article usage errors ('a positive impact', 'surge in vehicle usage'), and awkward phrasings. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but structural inaccuracies are persistent throughout the response. Although these errors rarely completely impede understanding, they cause occasional difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from rising above Band 5.0.
