Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying reasons why consumers buy local goods (such as supporting small businesses, government encouragement, and accessibility) and discussing whether this is a positive or negative trend. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as buying a locally made sofa for Rs. 15,000 to illustrate economic circulation. However, some arguments lack full depth, and the discussion on the negative trend focuses rather narrowly on potential fabrication issues. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the Band 6 descriptors well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical division into introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', to guide the reader through the points. However, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the use of cohesive markers can feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the different ideas about reasons, positive aspects, and negative aspects. Overall cohesion is satisfactory but contains noticeable flaws, placing it comfortably in the Band 6 descriptor category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'manufactured', 'accessibility', 'economy', and 'competition'. However, there are numerous word choice and collocation errors, as well as spelling mistakes ('manufatured', 'postive', 'businessess', 'wild' instead of wide, 'frabrication'). These errors occasionally create minor confusion, though they do not completely impede communication. The lexical range is sufficient for basic expression, aligning with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 level; a score of 5.5 reflects the frequency of lexical inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses ('when people are buying from local brands it always help...'). However, frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('There are some customers want', 'it always help', 'a consumer buy'), incorrect prepositions ('import from other countries goods'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation errors are also notable, such as inappropriate capitalization and sentence fragments. While meaning can still be deciphered, the high density of errors restricts the grammar score to Band 5.0.
