Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often considered that some consumers are choosing to buy products that are manufactured in their region, rather than imported goods. In my opinion, this is a positive development because local goods are more reliable in terms of suitability and affordability. Throughout this essay, I will discuss the main reasons why an increasing number of people are purchasing items from their own country.
One significant reason is that most of the industries make goods according to the atmosphere of a certain country whether they manufacture beauty products or any clothing item. This is mainly because every region has their own climate and UV rays. In Canada, citizens mostly experience cold weather around -40 centigrades. Conversely, in Pakistan temperature usually drops to 10 centigrades in the winters. If people import their clothes from each other, they will face difficulties with severe weather conditions. Additionally, same logic is applied for beauty products. Companies choose their ingredients according to the suitability of environment. In Pakistan, we need SPF50+ to protect our skin from sun rays, while in Canada they do not need such a high SPF. Hence, people are continuously rely on their home products.
From my perspective, it has a positive outcome because if we take the example of electronic items, they are more convenient to buy from local area. The primary reason is that when people import machineries from the other countries, it will create a tough situation for them when they claim the warranty of the items. It can pose a potential risk in terms of affordability, as they have to pay the shipping fee for repairing these products. This trend saves cost and time of the consumers, so some of them directly switched their minds towards local products.
In conclusion, consumers are on the right track, as they decide to rely on their local items. Their decisions alleviate the practical and financial difficulties. Furthermore, people are indirectly providing benefits to their country by choosing this path.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons for buying local goods and evaluating whether this trend is positive or negative. Your position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. You provide relevant examples, such as climate differences between Canada and Pakistan, and electronic warranties, to support your ideas. The ideas are adequately developed, though some supporting details, particularly regarding beauty products and UV rays, tend to over-generalize slightly. Overall, the task is answered satisfactorily, aligning with a Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile. We will place this at Band 7.0 for addressing all parts of the prompt with a clear, supported stance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
Your essay demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with an introduction, followed by reasons for the trend, an evaluation of its positivity, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Conversely', 'Additionally', and 'Hence' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. While referencing and paragraph flow can be smoothed out in future attempts, the overall arrangement is coherent. This meets the criteria for Band 6.5, which we round to a solid Band 6.0 based on minor mechanical use of cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'suitability', 'affordability', and 'machineries' (though the plural form of machinery is incorrect). There are some minor word choice and collocation issues, such as 'continuously rely' instead of 'continuously rely' or 'continually rely', and 'switched their minds' instead of 'shifted their focus'. However, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without impeding communication, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You exhibit a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures ('If people import their clothes...') and relative clauses adequately. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing instances, such as 'every region has their own climate' (pronoun-antecedent agreement), 'temperature usually drops to 10 centigrades in the winters', and 'people are continuously rely'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but these persistent errors in grammar mean that while communication is rarely impeded, error-free sentences are not frequent enough to achieve a Band 7. Therefore, a Band 6 is appropriate.
