Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is observed that an increasing number of individuals are opting to buy local products, rather than buying imported ones. These domestic goods are comparitively cheaper and easily available in the local market. I believe this trend is highly positive because it strengthens local economy and environmentally sustainable as well.

Affordability is one of the key factor due to which people prefer local goods for daily usage. There are no custom duties or transport charges on domestic products, which make them more affordable. Moreover, availability is also an important reason to make them a prominent choice for consumers. These locally made things are easily available on all the native stores. For instance, in remote areas of Pakistan locally made products are easy available due to their local production and suppliers.

It is a highly positive development because it supports local industry which in return strengthens local economy. This trend benefits native manufacturers and they yield high profits. Furthermore, these imported products are transported to different countries through ships, airplanes, and trucks that emit smoke, which is detrimental for our environament. The emission of carbondioxide in atmosphere decreases air quality and contributes to global warming. For example, the airplanes used for the transport of these products release 15,000 tons of carbondioxide annualy in our atmosphere.

In conclusion, the local goods are cheaper and easily accesible to people compared to imported goods and I believe this trend has many advantages because it boosts local economy of the country and protect our environment from harmful gases.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying reasons for buying local goods and expressing a clear position that the trend is positive, citing economic and environmental benefits. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of remote areas in Pakistan and the carbon dioxide emissions associated with international transport. The position is maintained clearly throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 standard. However, some arguments, particularly regarding affordability, could have been elaborated further to reach a higher level of full development. Overall, the task has been adequately answered with a clear stance and supportive details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas across paragraphs, moving from reasons to positive implications and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as affordability in the second paragraph and economic/environmental benefits in the third. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. Nevertheless, some cohesive relationships are slightly mechanical, and referencing occasionally feels repetitive. The text is generally easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 6.0 performance.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'custom duties', 'detrimental', 'environmental', and 'global warming'. There are some word-choice and spelling errors that do not impede communication, such as 'comparitively' instead of comparatively, 'environament' instead of environment, 'carbondioxide' instead of carbon dioxide, and 'annualy' instead of annually. Attempts are made to use less common vocabulary, but these minor mechanical errors and occasional awkward collocations, such as 'native stores' instead of local stores, place this essay firmly in the Band 6.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with examples of subordinate clauses such as 'which make them more affordable' and 'that emit smoke'. There are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing present, such as 'is one of the key factor' (plural noun agreement), 'things are easily available on all the native stores' (preposition choice), and 'easy available' instead of easily available. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication, aligning well with the descriptors for Band 6.0.
