Student answer (Band 6.0)

There has been drastic change in sales of local products. Some of the customers prefer to buy things locally instead of getting them from foreign countries. There could be several reasons leading to this trend. I strongly believe that it is a positive trend with having some drawbacks too. I will discuss the reasons and effect of this change in the upcoming paragraphs.

The major reason behind the shift of interest from imported stuff to local shops is the convenience and cost effectiveness. The things which are produced locally are inexpensive as compared to the foreign stuff. Because of the importation, there are more taxes on such things. People are more aware about difference between the costs now. They prefer to buy the local products. Moroever,it is much more convenient to get something from your own area rather than waiting for the deliveries.

First and foremost benefit of increase in local sale will boost the national economy. When the citizens of the country start buying materials from the local stores, they increase sale. It leads to more demand of the stuff and thus increases the profit for the owners. Somehow, this trend contributes to the developemt of the nation. As, the local businesses will expand and will pay more tax to the government. The money raised in such ways will be used for the adavanncement of the country.

On the other hand, people will be deprived of the some good and reliable stuff if they start relying on local products only. Beacuse sometimes, there are specific things which can't be manufactured locally. So, neglectance of foreign goods will lead to huge loss.

In conclusion, increasing local sales is considerably beneficial for the country, whereas cutting down on the imported material is not appropriate. There should be balance between both in order to get desirable material.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying reasons for buying local goods and expressing an opinion on whether this trend is positive or negative. The student outlines reasons such as cost-effectiveness and convenience, and evaluates the trend by weighing economic benefits against the potential loss of access to certain foreign goods. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for example, the explanation of the negative aspect could be extended with more specific examples. The position is clear throughout, and the main parts of the task are appropriately covered, earning a solid band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing reasons and effects, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or abrupt, such as 'Somehow, this trend contributes...'. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional minor cohesion glitches exist, such as referencing 'the some good and reliable stuff'. Overall progression is maintained throughout the response, fitting a band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'cost-effectiveness', 'importation', and 'deprived'. However, there are noticeable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'developemt' instead of development, 'adavanncement' instead of advancement, and 'neglectance' instead of neglect. Phrases like 'foreign stuff' are also slightly informal. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, leading to a band 6 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditionals and relative clauses (e.g., 'The things which are produced locally are...'). However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'with having some drawbacks too', 'Moroever,it is', and missing articles like 'deprived of the some good'. Punctuation and spacing errors also appear around commas. These errors occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band, but they rarely impede overall communication, placing this at a band 6.
