Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some individuals think that buying products from the local market is increasing more from local shopkeepers instead of buying other countries products. In my opinion, this is the negative trend because the products are expensive and having more tax on the goods. In this essay I will discuss the reasons and give solution in upcomming paragraphs.

There are several reasons why people not purchase imported goods because of convienence and flexiblity of products. The first and most important reason is that easy to buy from local market this is because most of the people did not want to go far from the house to buy something so they do from nearest area also they find diffrent material and febric from the local wendors. For example, In surrounding areas people can find good and effective goods in cheap price. Secondly, buying from local wenders is good for barganning and If they want to return something they can return easily.

In my opinion, this is the negative trend because if customers only focus on cheap and convienent products they might be not understand the imported goods which is useful for economy as well as better quality. Another important point is that they feel it is expensive because most of the imported items have more amount of tax on it. Apart from this, governments can do for their economy and they spread awarness in public so they konw the importance of purchasing goods.

In conclusion, although buying from local areas may have some advantages I believe that, this is a negative trend this is mainly because high price on products and more tax on goods which can cure by authorities and suppliers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the main parts of the task, discussing reasons for buying local and offering an opinion on the trend, though it is only partially developed. The position is stated in the introduction, but the reasoning tends to be repetitive and lacks depth. For example, the explanation that local shopping offers convenience and the ability to return items easily is touched upon, but it is not fully expanded with strong, specific supporting examples. Similarly, the discussion regarding the negative nature of the trend focuses heavily on taxation and product familiarity rather than broader economic implications. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to ensure all parts of the prompt are fully explored with well-supported explanations and clear examples that directly address the core issues of consumer behaviour.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization, with paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical flow between ideas. Cohesive devices are often repetitive or mechanical, such as the frequent reliance on simple transitional phrases like 'Secondly' and 'Apart from this', which are sometimes used inaccurately to link unrelated thoughts. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the progression of the argument. For instance, the transition from discussing local vendors to the economic impact of imported goods feels abrupt rather than smoothly guided. Improving this area requires a more varied use of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one to create a unified argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common items, such as 'convenience', 'flexibility', and 'bargaining', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation. Examples include 'wendors' instead of 'vendors', 'upcomming' instead of 'upcoming', 'febric' instead of 'fabric', and 'konw' instead of 'know'. Additionally, phrasing such as 'is the negative trend' and 'having more tax on the goods' sounds unnatural. These lexical limitations and spelling errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede the fluency of the text. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding their range of functional vocabulary, paying closer attention to word formation, and ensuring correct spelling for common terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic sentence patterns. When the writer attempts complex sentences, they are frequently faulty, leading to structural confusion and run-on phrasing. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, and awkward prepositional phrases, such as 'buying products from the local market is increasing more from local shopkeepers' and 'most of the people did not want to go far'. Furthermore, tense consistency is occasionally disrupted. These frequent grammatical errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher level, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater control, while reducing basic errors in verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries.
