Student answer (Band 6.0)
Trend to buy local products is increasing among some buyers in comparison to foreign goods. This is because these locally made things are cheap and easily available in the market. I personally believe that this is a positive development. I will explain this in the following essay.
People prefer to buy local products as they are available at low price in contrast to imported items. Because nowadays, the majority of the countries are producing their own essential products, and their manufacturing cost is low as they are utilizing local resources and raw material. Therefore, such products are available at reasonable prices. Thus, customers tend to buy these local made things. Also, local goods are easily available in a number of varieties. For example, an ice cream brand name in Pakistan called Hico is very famous among citizens because this local brand displays an array of flavors in their shops. In comparison, international franchises are unable to bring every item in every market of the globe.
Without a doubt, this is a positive development since it is contributing a large amount of money to national treasure. As local industries and manufacturers are buying raw material and ingredients from local suppliers, and further sell their products in local markets. This whole economic ecosystem generates employment and transfers skills to the next generation. Overall, this whole activity benefits the national per capita, and financial well being of citizens.
To conclude, purchasing local products aids the national economy and creates more jobs for the local people. Secondly, these local produced products are easily available in every market and one can buy them at reasonable prices.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the reasons for buying local goods and evaluating whether the trend is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the reasons regarding affordability and variety are introduced, the support tends to be somewhat repetitive or generalized. For instance, the example of the Pakistani ice cream brand Hico is relevant, but the explanation of why international franchises struggle is underdeveloped. To move to a higher level, the writer would need to fully extend and support all arguments with more depth and clarity throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a clear logical structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing the prompt's two main questions, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Therefore', 'Thus', and 'Also', though some of these transitional markers feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in their placement. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, successfully meeting the requirements of the lower band while showing part of the clear logical organization characteristic of the higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas effectively. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary and phrases, such as 'economic ecosystem' and 'financial well being', though some lexical choices and word forms are imprecise or awkward, such as 'local made things' instead of 'locally made goods', and 'national treasure' instead of 'national economy'. Spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'local produced products', do not impede communication, but they reflect the limitations typical of this band level. Greater precision and a wider range of sophisticated vocabulary would be needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning. There are several grammatical errors present, particularly concerning article usage ('Trend to buy', 'at low price'), missing plurals or incorrect word forms ('every item', 'local produced products'), and minor prepositional issues. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To achieve a higher band, the writer must produce a greater frequency of error-free sentences and demonstrate more consistent control over complex grammatical structures and punctuation.
