Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by identifying reasons for buying local goods and expressing an opinion that this is a positive trend. However, the development of ideas is limited and incomplete, particularly in the final paragraph which trails off mid-sentence. For example, while the writer mentions cost reduction and health benefits, these points remain somewhat surface-level and lack full extension. The position is discernible in the introduction, but the truncation of the conclusion prevents a fully realized response. To reach a higher standard, the writer must ensure all parts of the prompt are explored thoroughly with fully supported arguments and a complete concluding summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic organizational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and transitional markers such as 'First and foremost' and 'Secondly'. However, overall progression is disrupted by mechanical and repetitive cohesive devices, such as 'Instead of it' used twice in close proximity. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which affects the overall logical flow of the piece. Referencing can also be unclear, as seen with pronouns like 'it' referring back to distant antecedents. To improve, the writer needs to employ a wider and more natural variety of cohesive links and ensure every paragraph is fully developed to maintain clear logical progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, featuring recurrent words like 'goods', 'local', and 'imported'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'goods purchasing from locally', 'cheaper rate' instead of 'lower price', and 'souce of income'. Spelling and word-form inaccuracies are also present, including 'employement', 'temprature', 'Impoted', and 'approch'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, learn correct word forms and collocations, and demonstrate greater precision when using less common vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic complex forms. Attempts at complex sentences frequently result in grammatical errors, such as missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and faulty subject-verb agreement, as seen in 'First and foremost reason is that' and 'Indian government start new approch'. Punctuation and capitalization errors are also noticeable, including lowercase letters at the start of sentences and misuse of commas. Frequent errors across various grammatical categories cause strain for the reader. To progress, the writer should focus on mastering basic sentence mechanics and increasing the accuracy of complex structures.
