Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, there is a popular trend in society to buy those products which are manufactured within the country instead of goods from other countries. There are many reasons behind this including high import tax and surety to get fresh and good quality products. This will give fruitful consequences as it support the financial growth of a nation. This essay will examine both causes behind this trend and its postive outcomes in following paragrahs.

It is the government's policy of imposing heavy import tax on imported products that is primarily responsible for this. Having purchased an imported item, a consumer have to pay double tax which is federal and import tax that raise the price of that item. As a result, locally manufactured products get attention of the buyers. Moreover, people think that there is surety of better quality and freshness in case of locally manufactured products as there will be lesser transportation time. For example, in India, there is a significant demand of hybrid variety of kiwi fruit which was prepared by scientists at agriculture university , in the market. Thus, all these attributes make consumers to choose local products over imported one.

This could be a postive trend as it directly contributes to the nation's financial growth. This is because buying country's own manufactured products, a person can supports the livelihood of the companies and local workers of that country. Ultimately, it leads to the overall development of the nation. Evidence can be found that it is the hand carfted products that have contributed to a noticeable growth in China's GDP growth in last 5 years.

In conclusion, Import tax and consumer's trust on local products related to freshness and quality are two main factors responsible for this trend. I think it a postive development in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying reasons for buying local goods, such as heavy import taxes and perceived freshness, and discusses whether this is a positive trend. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the explanation regarding import taxes is somewhat generalized, and the example regarding kiwi fruit in India is slightly disjointed. To reach a higher band, the ideas would need more fully extended support and deeper exploration without relying on vague assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are presented coherently with a generally clear overall arrangement. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to connect ideas, such as 'Moreover' and 'This is because'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical, which prevents the essay from achieving a higher level of fluency and seamless progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate the main points effectively. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'manufactured', 'financial growth', and 'livelihood', though there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'surety to get fresh' instead of 'assurance of freshness', and minor spelling slips like 'postive' and 'paragrahs'. These errors do not impede communication, but to move into a higher band, greater precision in word choice and fewer lexical slips would be required.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the response. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions ('support financial growth' instead of 'supports the financial growth'), singular and plural mismatches ('a consumer have to pay'), and prepositions inside grammatical patterns ('in agriculture university'). Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments without difficulty. A wider variety of error-free complex structures and tighter control over grammatical agreements would elevate this criterion.
