Student answer (Band 6.5)
In this modern era, many consumers are increasingly choosing to purchase products that are manufactured locally, rather than imported ones. This essay will discuss the reasons for this behaviour and will state why it is a positive development.
Among many reasons, first and the foremost is that local products are available at reasonable prices when compared to imported goods. When we import any goods from other than own country, it requires additional cost of handling fees and shipping charges which makes the product even more expensive than its original price. As a result, the majority of ordinary people prefer to buy local products only. Another point worth considering is easy accessibility and availability of products. When compared with imported goods, local products are available easily near their area and they can get whenever they want because It does not take long time to arrive.
I firmly believe that this is a positive trend as it promotes local businesses. When people buy locally produced goods, it helps the businessman to earn a stable source of income as well as it increase their living standards. Another supporting point is that it helps to improve the economy of the country as local businneses grows, they contibute to taxes and the state can utilize these funds to improve the country. For instance, the funds can be utilized to build roads and constuct schools for the poor children.
Taking everything into consideration, due to these specified reasons people lean to buy local products more than relying upon buying imported products. Also, I believe that this is a positive trend because it leads to expansion of local shops and ultimately support the economy of the nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons for choosing local goods—lower prices and easier availability—and clearly states that this is a positive trend. The position is maintained in the conclusion, and the explanation of how local businesses contribute to tax revenue is relevant. The example of using public funds for roads and schools also supports the argument. However, the reasons are not equally developed: accessibility is asserted rather than illustrated, and the economic benefits are described in broad terms. To strengthen the response further, explain more specifically how buying locally benefits consumers or communities, and develop one example in greater detail. The response therefore covers the task well, but some ideas need fuller support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear four-part structure, moving from an introduction to reasons, then the writer’s evaluation, and finally a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposting such as “Another point worth considering” and “Taking everything into consideration” helps readers follow the argument. The two main reasons are grouped together, while the positive effects are discussed in a separate paragraph. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, with repeated transitions such as “Another” and repeated references to “local products.” The final paragraph also restates the main points rather than adding a concise synthesis. Use a wider range of natural links and clearer referencing to make the progression feel more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for explaining the topic, with relevant phrases such as “shipping charges,” “stable source of income,” and “improve the economy.” The writer also uses some formal framing, including “I firmly believe” and “Taking everything into consideration.” However, several choices are imprecise or awkward, including “from other than own country,” “they can get whenever they want,” and “lean to buy.” Spelling errors such as “businneses,” “contibute,” and “constuct” also reduce accuracy. Repetition of “local products” and “imported goods” limits flexibility. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “locally produced goods” and “are inclined to purchase.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional clause in “When we import any goods…” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the overall argument remains easy to follow. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with agreement and sentence construction. For example, “it increase their living standards” should use a plural verb, while “as local businneses grows” also needs subject–verb agreement. The phrase “it does not take long time to arrive” is missing an article and has an unclear subject. There is also inconsistent capitalisation after “because.” Review agreement, articles, and clause structure, then proofread punctuation and capital letters.
