Student answer (Band 7.0)
There has been a growing trend of purchasing local goods rather than imported ones. This trend is mainly attributed to the cost-effectiveness of many local productions. While many people believe that this is a negative trend, I firmly assert that it is a highly positive trend, as it will strengthen the economy of a country in the long run.
Nowadays. consumers prefer to buy locally produced goods. There are two main reasons for it. Firstly, they want to promote the products of their own country which will reduce their dependency on imported goods. Secondly, cost-effectiveness of many local products encourage consumers to buy them, as imported products are comparatively expensive due to the logistics cost associated with it. To illustrate, many bussiness owners in Pakistan rely on locally produced products because it reduces their production costs and subsequently increase the profit margins.
In my opinion, this is a higly positive trend of buying local goods, as this will promote domestic productions which tend to increase long-term economic resilience. Buying local productions allow the money to be circulated within the community which ultimately has a positive impact on a country's GDP. Furthermore, local productions lead to self-reliance in a country, which is less likely to be affected by geopolitical tensions and disruptions in global suppy chain. For instance, the US and Iran war in 2026 had a drastic impact on the oil imports in pakistan, as a result, there had been a surge in the fuel prices in Pakistan. This led to a rising inflation rate. This is mainly because Pakistan is largely dependent on the oil imports from other Middle Eastern states.
In conclusion, I reaffirm my conviction that the trend of purchasing local productions is a highly positive one which should be promoted. This will ultimately prove to be beneficial for strengthening the economy of a country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear, consistent view that buying local goods is positive. The reasons are relevant: consumers may support domestic producers, while lower transport costs can make local products cheaper. You also extend the positive argument through community spending and reduced exposure to international disruption, with the Pakistan fuel example providing support. This meets the task well, although some claims are broad: for example, the link between local purchasing and national GDP is asserted rather than explained, and the example focuses on dependence on imported oil more than on consumers choosing local goods. Develop these links more precisely and qualify generalisations to make the support more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear four-paragraph structure, moving from the issue and your position to reasons, evaluation, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help the reader follow the argument. The contrast between the two reasons and the later benefits is also easy to identify. At times, however, the linking is somewhat formulaic, and some connections could be made more explicit. For instance, the shift from local production to the Pakistan oil-import example would be clearer if you explained directly how this illustrates the risks of relying on imported goods. Use referencing and transitions more flexibly, rather than relying mainly on standard sequencing phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “cost-effectiveness,” “economic resilience,” “self-reliance,” and “geopolitical tensions,” which helps express the argument beyond basic terms. There is some awareness of formal style, and the meaning remains clear throughout. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “local productions,” “logistics cost,” and “money to be circulated.” Spelling slips in “bussiness,” “higly,” and “suppy” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and distinguish between goods, production, and producers. Greater precision and more consistent spelling would build on the range already shown and make the vocabulary more flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concessive opening (“While many people believe…”) and clauses explaining consequences. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the overall argument is easy to follow. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms: “cost-effectiveness … encourage” should be “encourages,” and “Buying local productions allow” should be “Buying local products allows.” In “which … associated with it,” the pronoun does not agree clearly with the plural “products.” There is also an unnecessary full stop after “Nowadays,” and inconsistent capitalisation of “Pakistan.” Review agreement, reference, and punctuation, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
