Student answer (Band 6.0)

Customers have started to prefer homegrown items instead of comsuming foreign made products. I believe this is a positive trend as it helps the local businesses in the area.

Primarily, when we buy local, the money generated stays in our community and helps them grow thier business. Local busniesses now need more support from the community to saty afloat in this globalised world. When customers buy local, they help to keep the business alive. For example, the eggs that are from farms are more economical. It may happen that if their product is not sold enough they might have to close their shop. Thus, this helps the community and economical growth

Secondly, everybody relies freshness of a product. If a consumer buys imported goods, they are unsure of the manufacturing or the cultivation process of that product. When one buys in a local market, the product is generally fress and is not mass produced for export. Nowadays, consumers are concerned about the manufacturing practices. They worry how a product is made. With local products, the practices are easier to understand as they are on a smaller level. For example, vegetables from a large multinational company almost will never be as fresh as a local seller who grows them in his farm. Hence, customers rely on local business for fresh produce.

In conclusion, buying homegrown products is essential as it helps to boost economy. The small businesses are transparent in their production practices and their quality is better than imported goods.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: you explain that consumers choose local goods to support community businesses and because they expect fresher, more transparent production, then clearly state that you see this as positive. The examples of farm eggs and locally grown vegetables help make the reasons relevant. This meets the task well, but the two reasons are not equally developed: the point about freshness is explained more fully, while the economic argument would benefit from a clearer explanation of how local spending supports jobs or keeps money circulating locally. The claim that local products are generally better quality than imported goods is also broad and would be stronger with qualification or specific support. Further development and precision would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “Primarily” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion that restates your position. The ideas generally progress logically within each paragraph, and examples are placed alongside the points they support. Some linking is mechanical, however, particularly the repeated use of “When” and “Thus/Hence,” and the conclusion repeats claims from the body rather than drawing them together. There is also a slightly unclear reference in “helps them grow their business,” where “them” could refer to the community or local businesses. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make references explicit to improve the flow and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “globalised,” “imported goods,” “manufacturing practices,” and “mass produced.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but the range and control are uneven, with several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural expressions. Examples include “comsuming,” “thier,” “busniesses,” “saty,” and “fress,” as well as “everybody relies freshness,” which is not a natural collocation. “Economical growth” is also less suitable than “economic growth.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and polish. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, such as “rely on freshness” or “support local businesses,” to make your vocabulary more accurate and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “It may happen that if their product is not sold enough they might have to close their shop” and a relative clause in “a local seller who grows them in his farm.” Most sentences remain understandable, and the errors rarely obscure your meaning. Some grammatical patterns are not controlled, though: “everybody relies freshness” needs a preposition (“relies on freshness”), and “helps them grow their business” has unclear pronoun reference and number. The conditional sentence is also awkwardly constructed and would be clearer as “If their products do not sell well, they may have to close.” Continue practising accurate complex clauses and check prepositions, agreement, and sentence punctuation.
