Student answer (Band 5.0)

well here i would like to highlight that consumers are not buying goods that are imported as they dont wish to make other countries rich and famous.

In a way they are supporting their own local goods so that they can help them to create a good name in the market.

And i think that this is a positive trend as they are giving a chance to local vendors to get .famous and create a goodwill in the market.

by doing this they are helping their country to get rich and become more successfull,

In this era we have realised that the people buying goods from other vendors especially on festivals to make their house and office look even more pretty and making other places more powerful and successfull. but we forget that local vendors families are also waiting at their places to break the bread together so i think that we should give a fair chance to our vendors so that they can also enjoy the family time and celebrate the festivals with joy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear overall view that buying local goods is positive, and you offer relevant reasons: consumers can support local vendors, help them build a reputation, and contribute to their country’s prosperity. However, the response addresses the task only partially because the reasons are brief and not explained with specific examples. The claim that consumers avoid imports because they do not want to make other countries “rich and famous” is asserted rather than supported, and the point about festival purchases and vendors’ family time is difficult to connect clearly to consumer choices. The response is also 75 words below the required minimum. Develop each reason with a concrete example and explain more directly why consumers prefer local products.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic sequence from explaining why people buy local goods to stating that this is positive, and phrases such as “In a way” and “by doing this” attempt to connect ideas. However, the response has no clear paragraph structure or sustained progression: several short statements repeat the idea of helping local vendors, while the final long sentence shifts to festivals and family time without a clear link to the main argument. Some references, such as “other places,” are also unclear. Organise the response into paragraphs, with one focused on reasons and another on whether the trend is positive, and use linking phrases to show how each example supports the point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the central ideas, including “local vendors,” “imported,” “market,” and “positive trend.” There are also attempts at more expressive phrases, such as “create a goodwill,” although this wording is not natural in context. The range is limited and several ideas rely on repeated words such as “successfull,” “market,” and “famous.” Spelling and word-choice problems, including “successfull” and “break the bread together,” reduce precision, though the general message remains understandable. Build a more accurate range for discussing consumer choices and local economies, and check collocations so that phrases sound natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response mainly uses simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to join ideas using “as,” “so that,” and “but.” These attempts show some range, but control is inconsistent. For example, “consumers are not buying goods that are imported as they dont wish” has unclear tense and missing punctuation, while the final sentence joins many ideas with “but” and “so” and becomes difficult to follow. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including sentence openings such as “by doing this” and the run-on final sentence. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences and then add a small number of accurately controlled complex sentences with clear clause boundaries.
