Student answer (Band 6.0)

Local goods are often in demand rather than imported products. I believe this is because they are affordable, and quality of the local products is more reliable than imported goods. This essay will explain why this can be seen as a positive development.

Locally manufactured goods are often preferred by people due to their cheap prices. When goods are produced in the particular area, the expenses are reduced because producers consider the local economy, and there is no cost of transportation. For example, a factory that is responsible for shoes will use the available and affordable materials in the market, which will ultimately reduce the cost of purchasing. Another benefit of local goods is that their quality can be trusted. When goods are manufactured locally, they tend to customise products according to the needs of the residents. For instance, a clothing company based in Canada will produce more winter clothes than warm clothes, such as jackets, sweaters and hoodies, to increase their sales. For that purpose, they will use materials that will keep people comfortable and warm. Therefore, residents choose to buy local goods to meet their financial and social preferences.

I strongly believe that it is a positive development because it can boost the economy of the country. When people purchase their local goods rather than international brands, can increase their selling power and leads to the financial stability of the nation. This can also reduce the heavy import tax that the government has to bring goods in their country.

In conclusion, I believe that nowadays, many consumers are intend to buy local goods as compared to imported goods can be seen as a positive trend. This could be due to its affordability and reliability. Therefore, this arrangement can benefit both the individual as well as the country. This will promote local businesses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: affordability and perceived reliability are offered as reasons, and you clearly support buying local goods as a positive trend. The examples about locally made shoes and Canadian winter clothing help illustrate your points. Your explanation of affordability is reasonably clear, while the reliability argument is less fully established: tailoring products to local needs shows relevance, but does not necessarily demonstrate that their quality is more dependable. The economic benefit is also asserted rather than explained in detail, particularly the claim about “selling power” and import taxes. To strengthen the response, develop these links and support the positive judgement with a more specific consequence or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to reasons, then an evaluation and conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish the causes from your view of the trend, and signposts such as “Another benefit” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical, and a few references are unclear. For example, “For that purpose” does not precisely identify what purpose is meant, while “This arrangement” in the conclusion is vague. The economic paragraph also moves quickly from consumer purchases to national financial stability without showing the link. Use more precise referencing and connect each claim explicitly to the next to make the progression more flexible and convincing.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “locally manufactured goods,” “transportation,” “financial stability” and “import tax.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the examples show an attempt to use more specific language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, however: “cheap prices” is less natural than “low prices,” “selling power” does not clearly express the intended economic benefit, and “warm clothes” is confusing in contrast with winter clothing. “Intend to buy” is also not the right form for describing a current consumer trend. Aim for more natural collocations and precise terms, especially when explaining economic effects, so your vocabulary supports rather than blurs your argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and examples introduced by “when.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. In “When people purchase their local goods rather than international brands, can increase their selling power,” the subject of “can increase” is missing; the sentence also shifts awkwardly into “leads.” The conclusion has a similar construction problem in “many consumers are intend to buy … as compared to imported goods can be seen.” There are also issues with articles and number, such as “in the particular area” and “the individual.” Review clause structure and verb forms, and check that each sentence has a clear subject and a complete main clause.
