Student answer (Band 5.0)
In todays world with globalisation in action, people have a wide variety of options when buying goods. Although globalisation has taken over the market, customers are showing immense support towards locally produced goods. In this essay I will discuss the reasons behind this substantial support and will give my opinion on why this movement believe will have a positive imapact.
One of the main reasons behind the local support is that customers want to preserve the cultural identity associated with the good. These locals put extensive efforts in producing goods, a skill passed down from generations. These generations give meaning and value to the item being sold. In addition, people hate these big global corporations. These firms destroy the local markets with their competitive pricing and make the locals suffer. These locals undergo losess which inturn harms the actual citizens. A clear illustraion of this is farmers market, a market established

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify two relevant reasons for buying local goods: preserving cultural identity and protecting local producers from large corporations. The opening also signals that you view the trend positively. However, the response is incomplete: it stops during the example about a farmers’ market, so the reasons are only briefly explained and your positive judgement is not supported with a developed explanation or example. The task asks both why consumers make this choice and whether it is positive or negative; the second part is especially underdeveloped. The response is also 99 words below the required minimum, which limits how fully you can address the question. Develop each reason with a clear cause-and-effect explanation, then explain the benefits you believe follow from the trend.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable opening and begins a body paragraph, with signposting such as “In this essay I will discuss” and “One of the main reasons.” The ideas about cultural identity and the effect of corporations are relevant and placed in a broadly sensible order. However, the essay ends abruptly at “a market established,” so there is no completed example, conclusion, or clear progression to the second part of the task. Within the paragraph, “These locals” is repeated and the links between corporate pricing, losses, and harm to citizens are not made fully clear. To improve, use separate paragraphs for the reasons and your evaluation, complete each point before moving on, and use referencing that clearly identifies who is affected.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You show some range beyond basic vocabulary, including “globalisation,” “cultural identity,” “extensive efforts,” and “competitive pricing.” These choices help communicate the topic and the intended argument. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “todays,” “imapact,” “losess,” and “illustraion” should be corrected, while “immense support towards” is an awkward collocation. Repeated use of “locals” and “goods” also makes the vocabulary less varied. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, you could refer to “local producers” or “small-scale businesses” rather than repeatedly saying “these locals.” More precise vocabulary would make the argument clearer without requiring unnecessarily complex words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including a complex opening with “Although globalisation has taken over the market” and a relative clause in “a skill passed down from generations.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation problems remain. In “In this essay I will discuss … and will give my opinion on why this movement believe,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the construction is incomplete or unclear. “A clear illustration of this is farmers market, a market established” is also unfinished, leaving the sentence without a complete thought. Add the missing apostrophe in “In today’s world,” and use sentence boundaries and commas carefully. Practise completing complex sentences and checking that every clause has a clear subject and finite verb.
