Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area rather than imported goods.
PARAGRAPH 1,
Firslty, in my opinion i think its a positive trend because buying goods from local area is not that much costly and mostly we can get good quality goods in low price and its is helpful for both costumer and the shopkeeper because in local area shopkeers are mostly not belongs to a high end background thats why buying things from them help[s to make them more money so that they can afford their family expenses like their childrens school fees, their food and clothes.
PARAGRAPH 2,
Secondly, i think sometimes it can be a negative trend because mostly shopkeepers in local areas may sell low quality products in low price, so if costumer bought a local product his money will be wasted but if a costumer buys imported goods at a resonable price it can be beneficial. Some shopskeepers are also selling local products at very high price, so the people should have an authentic information about the products they are buying.
PARAGRAPH 3,
Thirdly, according to me it is a positive trend i mostly buy an imported thing because i can not afford scam in local products if we are buying something local and it came out low quality product then i will have to buy another one thats why i think buying an imported product is beneficial for everyone. Few years ago my best friend bought a makeup product from a local area shop they were showing that the product is from high end brand but they were just using their packaging.
CONCLUSION,
The costumer should have an authentic information about the product they are buying, so that it can save their money and health also.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You give a view that buying locally can be positive and also mention possible drawbacks, including low-quality goods and misleading claims about brands. However, the response does not fully answer both questions: it gives little explanation of why consumers increasingly choose local goods, and the position becomes unclear when you say imported products are “beneficial for everyone” and describe buying imported items yourself. The example about your friend’s makeup purchase is relevant to product quality and trust, but it does not clearly support the stated preference for local goods. Develop the reasons for the trend—such as supporting local businesses or reducing transport—and make your overall judgement consistent. The 19 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response is divided into paragraphs and uses signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Thirdly,” so the reader can identify separate points. However, these links are mechanical and do not create a clear progression: the first paragraph supports local buying, while the third argues that imported goods are more beneficial, without explaining how this relates to your overall position. The conclusion repeats the advice to check product information rather than summarising your answer to both questions. Some references, such as “it” in “it can be beneficial,” are not fully clear. Organise the body around reasons for choosing local goods and then evaluate the advantages and disadvantages, using transitions that show how each point connects.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “low quality,” “imported goods,” “authentic information,” and “high end brand.” This is enough to communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, particularly “local area,” “product,” and “buying.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “costumer” for “customer,” “shopkeers,” and “resonable.” Some phrases are imprecise or unnatural, including “afford scam in local products” and “make them more money.” Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and natural collocations, for example, “support local businesses,” “product authenticity,” and “poor-quality goods.” Proofreading spelling would also make your meaning easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences using “because,” “so,” and “if,” as in “if a customer buys imported goods at a reasonable price it can be beneficial.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow. For example, “buying goods from local area is not that much costly” has problems with articles and sentence construction, while “if we are buying something local and it came out low quality product” shifts tense and lacks a clear grammatical structure. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including lowercase “i” and long sentences joined with commas. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea each, then combine them using correctly formed clauses and consistent verb tenses.
