Student answer (Band 6.0)

An increasing trend is observed, among the people for buying goods that are produced by local farmers, rather than choosing imported items. This essay will elucidate the reasons behind this change, and why I believe that this is a positive change for individual.

The major reasons, people are choosing to buy goods from local market are because of its affordability and availability. Many fruits and vegetables are available in the local market which are being sold at lower prices, compared to imported fruits and vegetables. For example, individual would prefer to buy fresh vegetables with high nutritional value at lower cost, rather than choosing any imported ones. In addition to this, sometimes imported goods are not easily available in the market. Therefore, people choose buying goods which are easily available and cost effective.

The another major reason, individuals choose to buy goods from local market is because of its great quality and awarness. Vegetables which are grown in local area by farmers may use less amount of preservatives and harmful substances, to extend their shelf life. As a result, consumer prefer to choose locally grown vegetables. However, this is not the case with the imported goods as they require the vegetables to remain fresh till the time it reaches the market. Therefore, because of the nutritional value and health concern people are more drawn toward organic items.

In conclusion, I strongly believe this change in habit of choosing local goods is a positive trend. This not only improve the quality of life but also help them to avoid to consume any harmful substance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the question: it gives reasons for choosing local goods—lower prices, availability, and perceived freshness or health benefits—and clearly states that this is a positive trend. The examples about affordable vegetables and imported produce needing to remain fresh help make the discussion relevant. However, the reasons are not equally developed: affordability and availability are explained briefly, while the claims about preservatives and nutritional value would benefit from clearer support or a specific example. The conclusion repeats the positive view but adds little to the argument. To strengthen the response, explain more fully how buying locally benefits consumers or communities, and qualify broad claims about imported goods rather than presenting them as universally true.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around reasons, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “In addition to this,” and “As a result” help show relationships between ideas. The progression is generally easy to follow, though some connections feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Therefore” and the transition “However” before contrasting imported goods. Referencing is occasionally unclear: “its affordability and availability” follows “local market,” but the intended reference is the goods or local produce. The second body paragraph also combines quality, awareness, preservatives, and health without fully distinguishing these points. Use more precise references and develop one main idea at a time to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for discussing the topic, and phrases such as “nutritional value,” “preservatives,” “shelf life,” and “cost effective” show attempts to use relevant, specific language. Meaning remains clear, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “great quality and awarness” is imprecise, “drawn toward organic items” does not quite match the discussion of locally grown produce, and “avoid to consume” is an awkward expression. There are also spelling errors, including “awarness,” and repeated use of “goods,” “vegetables,” and “choose.” Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and natural word combinations; this would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex forms, including a relative clause in “Vegetables which are grown in local area” and a comparison with “rather than.” Most ideas can be understood, but some grammatical errors remain across the essay. Examples include the missing article in “in local area,” the agreement error in “This not only improve … but also help,” and the construction “people are choosing … for buying goods.” There are also problems with singular and plural forms, as in “individual would prefer,” and with sentence punctuation around introductory phrases. Work on subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete, natural sentence patterns. More accurate control of these forms, alongside the existing sentence variety, would improve clarity.
