Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Instead of relying on imported goods, some customers are increasingly opting to buy goods which are produced domestically. This is because individuals want to support local businesses, and they want to reduce dependency on other nations. It is a positive trend because it would generate employment.
Men and women want to reduce their reliance on foreign products. In case of natural calamities, such as a flood or an earthquake, local commodities would be readily available, and people do not need to depend on foreign products. Moreover, people want domestic firms to grow, and people do not want foreign firms to exploit local businessmen. This would not only help in economic development but also raise the standard of living. For instance, many people in India prefer to eat at a local restaurant rather than eating at a overseas franchise.
This trend would generate employment in a nation, so it is a positive trend. If the demand of local goods and services rise, people would be needed in organizations, thereby reducing unemployment rates. It would not only beneficial for the local residents but also the governments as they collect more taxes from firms. For instance, in India, if citizens prefer to purchase Micromax phones instead of Chienese phones, there would be a rise in the demand of workers in this sector, which would create employment opportunities and generate tax revenues.
To conclude, some purchasers are increasingly opting for domestic goods and services because they do not want to rely on overseas commodities, and citizens want local merchants to expand their businesses. It is a good thing because it helps in solving the problem of unemployment to some extent.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear positive view, supported by reasons about self-reliance, local business growth and employment. The examples of choosing a local restaurant and buying Micromax phones make the discussion relevant. This meets the task well, while showing some of the development expected at a stronger level. However, the reasons are not equally explored: the point about avoiding reliance on imports during natural disasters is introduced but not explained in depth, and the claim that foreign firms exploit local businessmen is asserted rather than supported. The employment argument is clearer, but could explain more precisely how increased demand leads to jobs and wider benefits. Develop each reason with a fuller explanation or a specific, credible example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states the position, two body paragraphs present reasons and benefits, and the conclusion restates the main points. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For instance,” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because several sentences begin with “people” or “It would,” and the repeated use of “not only … but also” makes the connections predictable. Some references are also broad: “This trend” refers to the preference for local goods, but the paragraph could connect that preference more explicitly to the employment mechanism. Use a wider range of transitions and clearer links between claims and examples to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “imported goods,” “dependency,” “economic development,” “unemployment rates,” and “tax revenues.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some less common terms are attempted. However, several word-choice and collocation problems reduce naturalness: “demand of local goods” and “demand of workers” would be more idiomatic with “demand for,” while “a overseas franchise” is inaccurate. There are also spelling errors in “Chienese” and awkward phrasing such as “local businessmen” where “local businesses” is intended. The vocabulary is adequate for the topic, but greater precision and more reliable collocations would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures (“If the demand … rise”) and result clauses (“thereby reducing unemployment rates”). Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical inaccuracies are nevertheless noticeable. For example, “It would not only beneficial” needs a verb (“be”), and “a overseas franchise” requires the article “an.” In “If the demand … rise,” the verb form should agree with the singular subject, and “rather than eating at a overseas franchise” has an article error as well. Continue practising agreement, articles and complete verb phrases, while retaining the longer sentence structures you already attempt.
