Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believe that people are often buying locally grown produces although they have access to purchase imported goods. In this essay, I will illustrate reasons behind it, and considering it as a positive impact on the community.

To begin with, consumer are aligned towards local shops to buy their daily stuffs because they want to support local farms and businesses to grow and expand their operations. It results in positive cash flow to them, and they can expand their growth. For example, there is a one farm nearby my home, and they keep fresh honey to sell. I have been buying from them since last 2 years. They used to have 20 jars in stock when I first visited their store, however, today they keep more than 500 jars in stock because of the support from the local people. Thus, local business can expand their wings if they get real help from the surrouding areas. Furthermore, people seems to be busy nowaday due to hactic schedule of work. For that reason, they tend to go and buy basic needs from nearby store which makes it accessible for them, and it saves time. Also they can do negotiation with the owners since they are living close by.

It is a positive development because buying produced from local area builds stronger relationship among the community. Everybody knows each other with the business perspective can enhance their future opporutinity to build something big in the area, and support local to build their life better. Not only buying from local stores strengthen community financially but also keep them healthy since no or less use of pestisides on the procudes.

To conclude, buying from local businesses can really help owners to better establishment of the businesses , and also give people flexibility to get things on hand quickly. Indirectly, it builds stronger community by supporting each others and keep them healthy with fresh produces.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: you give reasons for buying locally, including supporting farms and businesses and the convenience of nearby shops, and you clearly judge the trend to be positive. The honey-farm example gives relevant support and shows how local demand can help a business grow. This meets the task well, but the reasons are not equally developed: convenience and negotiating with shop owners are mentioned briefly, while the health claim about fewer pesticides is asserted without explanation or evidence. The discussion also focuses mainly on local food and shops, rather than goods more broadly. To strengthen the response, explain each reason more fully and connect examples directly to why consumers choose local products over imports.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, a paragraph stating the positive effects, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the main stages. The honey example is placed appropriately after the point about supporting local businesses. However, some links between ideas are abrupt: the move from community relationships to health benefits is not explained, and the conclusion repeats earlier points rather than bringing the argument together. Phrases such as “For that reason” and “Thus” are sometimes used mechanically. Develop clearer links between each claim and its consequence, and use referencing or transitions that show how the ideas relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “support local farms and businesses,” “positive cash flow,” “community,” and “pesticides.” There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “expand their wings,” although this is not a natural collocation in this context. Word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less precise: “daily stuffs,” “hactic schedule,” “opporutinity,” and “produces” are examples. Some phrases, including “build their life better” and “with the business perspective,” are difficult to interpret naturally. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling and word forms; this will make your ideas clearer while preserving the useful topic vocabulary you already use.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “although,” and “since,” and most of the main ideas remain understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “It is believe” needs a passive form, “consumer are” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “people seems to be busy” also has incorrect agreement. The sentence beginning “Everybody knows each other” becomes difficult to follow as it continues. Some punctuation and sentence-boundary choices also make longer ideas harder to process. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, then review agreement and article use; keep complex sentences controlled rather than joining several claims together.
