Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the topic and gives a position: buying local goods is described as “a productive trend.” It also begins to offer a reason, namely product quality, so the answer is relevant to the question. However, it does not explain the reasons in enough detail or develop whether the trend is positive or negative; the promised discussion is not completed. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, leaving both parts of the task largely unanswered and unsupported by examples. To improve, explain several reasons consumers choose local goods, then clearly assess benefits or drawbacks and support each point with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an emerging structure: an introductory paragraph is followed by a body paragraph signalled by “On the one hand,” and the writer uses a forward-looking sentence to introduce the essay’s purpose. These features give the short response some organisation. However, the progression is incomplete: the body paragraph stops mid-sentence at “goods which are,” and there is no developed explanation, contrasting paragraph, or conclusion. The phrase “On the one hand” also suggests a second side that never appears. Complete each paragraph around one clear point, use linking expressions to show how reasons support the position, and finish with a concise conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response attempts topic-related vocabulary, including “consumers,” “purchase,” “products,” “international goods,” and “quality,” and “sparking a significant debate” shows an effort to use more formal phrasing. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent enough to make parts less clear, as in “cutomer,” “insted,” and “enalyze.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “thinking of customer” and “productive trend” do not clearly convey the intended meaning. Build accuracy with common collocations such as “consumer preferences,” “locally produced goods,” and “a positive trend,” and check spelling carefully. A wider range of precise vocabulary would also help explain the reasons and effects.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writer attempts both a complex opening sentence and a relative clause, as in “goods which are,” showing some willingness to vary sentence forms. There are also basic clauses that communicate the general topic and position. However, control is inconsistent: “While it is often argued that consumers prefer…” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence, and “This happen because” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening also lacks an article in “on economy of country,” while the final relative clause is unfinished. Practise completing subordinate clauses and checking agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. Developing a few accurate complex sentences would make the argument easier to follow.
