Student answer (Band 5.5)

There are many people who prefer to purchase goods that are generate in their surrounding area instead of imported products because it supports the local economy and offers quality products. I believe it can be a positive development because it creates jobs in local region.

To begin with, buying local items contributes to the local economic growth. This is because local people often buy items from their area rather than buying them from other parts of the nation. For instance, in Gujarat, many individuals usually buy products, particularly vegetables, fruits, crafts, and other items, in nearby area. As a result, it may improve local and contry's overall economy.

It can create more jobs for local people in their area. This is mainly because local peole can start their own business, which may get support from their community memebers and receive huge benefits every day. For example, many people take a risk and start their own stores in Calgary because they know that local dwelers will help them to promote and advertise their shops. Therefore, it may reduce unemployment rates in the local area.

In conclusion, several people are buying local goods rather than purchasing international products because it contribute to the local economy. In my view, it is a positive development because it can reduce the unemployment and create more jobs in local area.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear position that buying local goods is positive, and you provide two relevant reasons: supporting the local economy and creating jobs. The Gujarat and Calgary examples help illustrate these points. However, the response only partly answers the question about why consumers choose local goods: the economic benefit is explained, but the claim that local goods offer “quality products” in the introduction is not developed. The job-creation point is also asserted more than explained, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction. The response is 224 words, below the required 250, so there is limited space to develop the reasons and support them fully. Explain the consumer motivations in more detail and extend each example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each body paragraph focuses on one main idea, and linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “For instance,” and “As a result” make the progression easy to follow. This gives the essay coherent organisation. However, some connections are mechanical, and the relationship between claims is not always precise. For example, the Gujarat example lists local purchases but does not clearly show how this choice improves the wider economy; “Therefore” in the Calgary paragraph similarly follows the example without fully explaining the link to lower unemployment. The conclusion repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together. Make these cause-and-effect links explicit and vary how you connect supporting details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use adequate vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “local economic growth,” “unemployment rates,” “promote and advertise,” and “imported products.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some topic-specific wording adds useful range. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including “contry's,” “peole,” “memebers,” and “dwelers,” which reduce accuracy. Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “goods that are generate” and “in nearby area.” Repetition of “local,” “area,” and “products” limits flexibility. Aim to check spelling carefully and use more natural collocations, such as “locally produced goods” and “nearby markets,” while varying repeated terms where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause (“because it supports the local economy”) and a relative clause (“which may get support from their community”). Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical inaccuracies are present, however. In “goods that are generate,” the passive form is incorrect; “goods that are produced” is needed. “It can create more jobs” has an unclear subject, and “because it contribute” in the conclusion has a subject–verb agreement error. There are also article and number issues in phrases such as “in nearby area” and “in local area.” Review passive constructions, agreement, and articles, then proofread each sentence for these patterns.
