Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, it is very common for people to purchase local goods than imported goods. Local goods tend to be organic and fresh unlike non-domestic commodities. However some consumers opt for foreign goods because not all goods are locally manufactured. I strongly believe that the benefits of buying domestic products outweighs the benefits of getting foreign products.

Buying native produce encourage a sense of belonging through local job creation and promote local market. For example, purchasing goods like vegetables, flowers and other types of home grown food promotes and increases local market production. This plays a pivotal role as it promotes local economic empowerment. Therefore farm-to-table products are of better quality.

In addition most consumers like their products fresh and organic. It is known that most imported goods are not as fresh as the locally produced ones. They use artificial storage and preservatives. For instance, imported, fruits and vegetables may be in canned containers or plastics which may lead to spoilage.

Moreover, local goods offer distinct, non mass produced items that reflect the culture and creativity of the town. There is a personal connection where by individuals build the trust and direct relationship with the producers. Therefore this leads to increase in consumers buying locally produced goods.

However, some consumers still buy foreign goods because some products are not locally manufactured. For example in most remote areas, it is difficult to get products that needs huge industrial manufacturing namely cooking oil. There are locally produced sunflowers but not locally produced processed oil which leads to exporting such products.

In a nutshel, I am of the notion that there is an increase in consumers prefering local products than foreign products because local products are fresh and organic. However, some still prefer foreign products since not all products are natively manufactured.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions: you explain the appeal of local goods through freshness, perceived organic quality, support for local employment and markets, and a connection with local producers. Your view that the trend is beneficial is clear, and the paragraph about products unavailable locally acknowledges why some consumers choose imports. These relevant points meet the task well. However, the positive-versus-negative judgement is not fully developed: the response mainly lists advantages and does not weigh them against possible disadvantages, such as higher prices or limited choice. Some supporting claims also need clearer explanation—for example, the link between imported produce in packaging and spoilage is asserted rather than demonstrated. Developing these points and making the overall evaluation more explicit would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs on reasons for buying local goods, a qualification about imports, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on one main idea, and signposts such as “In addition,” “Moreover,” and “However” help readers follow the progression. This gives the essay a coherent structure. At times, though, linking feels mechanical, and some connections between claims are not fully clear. For instance, “Therefore farm-to-table products are of better quality” does not clearly follow from the point about local job creation and market production. The conclusion also repeats the reasons without clearly restating why the trend is positive. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between each example and its main point more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “local economic empowerment,” “preservatives,” “mass produced,” and “direct relationship,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “pivotal role” and “distinct,” which show ambition. However, some choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural: “promote local market,” “increase in consumers buying,” and “products that needs huge industrial manufacturing” do not express the intended ideas smoothly. Spelling and word-form slips such as “nutshel” and “prefering” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling and word forms; for example, “support local markets” and “an increase in consumers’ preference” would be more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses with “unlike” and “However,” and a relative clause in “products that needs huge industrial manufacturing.” Most sentences remain understandable, so grammatical errors rarely obstruct the message. Some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction persist. For example, “Buying native produce encourage” should be “Buying native produce encourages,” while “the benefits … outweighs” should use “outweigh.” In “products that needs,” the verb should agree with the plural noun, and “There is a personal connection where by” needs a more accurate clause structure. Review subject–verb agreement and punctuation around introductory transitions, and edit each sentence for a clear grammatical relationship between its parts.
