Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, an increasing number of consumenrs prefers purchasing local manufactured products rather then imported alternatives. This shift in consumer behavior can be attributed to several reasons. I firmly believe that it a positive development because it strenthens the local businesses.
There are various reasons why people are becoming more interested locally produced products. Firstly, customers believe that local products are fresher, more relaible and better quality, especially in produce. Secondly, this approach helps to encourage the small local businesses and manufacturers. Another significant factor is environmental issue, imported products needs more transportation, which contributes in carbon emissions. Consequently, environmentally concious people more likely buy from local commnuties.
I strongly believe that this trend is beneficial for locals and for economy as well. To begin with, purchasing from local people helps to expand their businesses, generates employment, which contributes in economy. For instance, when Canadians but produce from local farmers, they directly support agriculture industry and it help farmers to maintain their livelihoods. Moreover, by doing this less transportation industry is involved, which resulting less fuel consumption and environmental pollution. Although, imported products sometimes offers a competative prices, but these advantages do not outwiegh the disadvantages.
In conclusion, the growing preferences of buying local goods leads to promote economy, job opportunities and resolving the environmental issues. This approach is a positive, which have several positive impacts on the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question: you give reasons for buying local goods and clearly state that you see this as a positive trend. The reasons—perceived freshness and quality, support for small businesses, and reduced transport emissions—are relevant. Your example of Canadians buying from local farmers also helps illustrate the economic benefit. This response meets the lower-band expectations and shows some qualities of a stronger response through its clear position and relevant support. However, several points are asserted rather than explained: for example, you do not clarify why local goods are more reliable, and the environmental benefit is repeated without much development. The response is also 22 words below the required minimum. Develop one or two reasons with more specific explanation or an example to make the discussion more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, a paragraph supporting your view, and a conclusion. The progression from reasons to evaluation is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This is a sound, logical organisation. To make the flow more flexible, avoid relying so heavily on explicit sequencing words and connect related points more naturally. For instance, the environmental reason appears in both body paragraphs; you could develop it once and use the later paragraph to extend the discussion rather than repeat it. Also ensure that linking expressions accurately show the relationship between ideas, particularly when introducing the contrast about imported products.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “consumer behavior,” “manufacturers,” “carbon emissions,” “employment,” and “fuel consumption.” These choices make your main ideas clear, and phrases such as “maintain their livelihoods” show an attempt to use more specific language. However, spelling errors and imprecise or awkward collocations reduce accuracy: examples include “reliable,” “environmentally conscious,” “local communities,” and “competitive prices.” Some expressions are also broad, such as “positive impacts on the society.” Aim to check spelling carefully and choose natural combinations, such as “support the local economy” or “reduce transport-related emissions.” Greater precision and more consistent control of word forms would strengthen the vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause (“because it strengthens…”) and a concession beginning “Although.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “an increasing number … prefers” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “imported products needs” and “it help farmers” also require agreement. There are errors with articles and sentence construction in “I firmly believe that it a positive development” and “This approach is a positive.” The sentence beginning “Although” is not correctly joined to the main clause, and “which resulting” has an incorrect verb form. Review agreement, complete clause structure, and verb forms, then proofread punctuation. More accurate complex sentences would improve control.
