Student answer (Band 5.5)

Buying groceries grow from whether within their own rigion or internationally are become increasing concern amogst residents. Some people prefer to buy fruits and vegetables which are produced in their local region because it is fresh and without pestisides or harmful chemicals. However, other individuals are purchasing goods which are imported becuase they wants product which is not available in their town.

One of the major reasons families prefer to buy goods grown from their local area is becuase the food available in local shops is organic and fresh. This is becuase the shop owner has their own farm in which they grow fresh vegetables and fruits and daily pick fresh one for the customer. Also, the goods are organic as they did farming without using any pestisides chemicals. Furthemore, although some products are not available in their own region, some consumers still prefer to support local people to earn income by purchasing products from vendors. For instance, Blue Mountain, in Ontario, is famous for freshly grown strawberries which is organic and famous for its sweetness. As a result, no one imported this fruit from outside the village.

In my opinion, this is a positive development because it will apparently provide income and support to people whoa re living in countryside, especially farmers who sells products freshly grown in their farm. Moreover, people can purchase products internationally which are not produced in their local area such as dates, which need high temeprature to grow. Therefore, people purchase imported goods. In contrast, international food is expensive as they add taxes and high charges as it is imported from other place.

In conclusion, while some people ordered imported goods due to its availability issue in small village, I believe that most of the consumers are choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area because it is fresh and healthy instead of imported foods.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: you explain that consumers value local food for freshness and perceived organic production, and you state that buying locally is positive because it supports farmers. The Blue Mountain strawberry example gives the discussion some relevant support. However, the reasons are not fully balanced or developed: the point about imported goods being unavailable locally is mentioned, but its role in consumers’ choices is not clearly explained, and the claim that local food is pesticide-free is asserted rather than supported. Your conclusion restates the preference for local goods but does not bring the reasons and positive judgement together in much detail. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation and a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main ideas are generally grouped sensibly. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Moreover” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between points. However, progression is sometimes difficult to follow because ideas shift within paragraphs: the second paragraph moves from freshness to organic farming and then to supporting local vendors, while the third introduces imported goods and their cost without clearly connecting these points to the positive-trend argument. Some links, including “In contrast,” do not express the relationship clearly. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s focus and make references between ideas more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “imported goods,” “organic,” “pest[icides],” “income” and “countryside,” and you attempt some more specific expressions such as “high temperature to grow.” This gives you enough range to communicate the main points. However, spelling errors are noticeable, for example “rigion,” “amogst,” “pestisides” and “temeprature,” and some word combinations are unnatural, such as “goods grown from their local area” and “ordered imported goods.” Repetition of “fresh,” “products” and “local” also limits variety. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for describing where goods are produced, how they are sold, and the benefits of local purchasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “which” and “although,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, errors in verb forms and agreement occur in several places: “are become increasing concern,” “they wants product,” and “farmers who sells” need corrected structures. There are also problems with articles, plurals and sentence construction, as in “pick fresh one for the customer” and “which is organic and famous for its sweetness.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, even though the main message remains clear. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, then review agreement and article use, especially in longer sentences.
