Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, purchasing goods from local markets has become increasingly common. Instead of paying for imported goods, people prefer buying things that are produced locally. This essay will discuss few reasons behind this trend.

One of the main reason is that imported goods nowadays contains several medicines and chemicals. People uses different products for fast growth of the plants and vegetables in order to sell them in market. For example, survay conducted in 2008 in Canada states that many fruits and vegetables are imported from other countries and they still look fresh and shiny after staying few days in transport vehicles. This is because, sellers have used chemicals to save them for longer time. Other important reason is that goods in market are not original. Factories are making everthing artifically to earn money. For instance, videos are circulating on social media of mango juice which is made up of just water and colour with added suger and flavour. Moreover, rice are also made up of plastic in machines. As a result, people cannot trust the products which sells in market. Thus, consumers choose to buy their locally produced things.

Furthermore, this is a positive trend as this can contributes in saving individuals' health and money. Usage of goods plays vital role in person's wellbeing. Their body will stay fit if they are consuming naturally produced things, such as fruints, vegetables, rice and flour. However, using imported goods contaning wax on their outer coatings leads to several illnesses including kindey failure. Additionally, imported goods are usually expensive then locally produced. So, using local produce cost cheaper.

In conclusion, Although there will be less avaliability of goods which are locally grown, this is still better choice to maintain persons' health and finances.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: you give reasons for choosing local goods and clearly judge the trend positively, linking it to health and cost. The examples about treated produce and misleading food products help illustrate your concerns. However, the reasons are not always clearly distinguished: the claim that imported goods contain chemicals is broad, and the example about artificial mango juice and plastic rice does not clearly establish that these products are imported. The positive effects are also less developed than the reasons, with health and affordability asserted but not explained in detail. The conclusion briefly acknowledges reduced availability, but this point is not explored. To strengthen the response, qualify general claims and explain how each example supports the specific point being made.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, a paragraph evaluating the trend, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “As a result,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the reader can identify your main position. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. At times, however, links are mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not fully clear—for example, the discussion moves from imported produce to artificial juice and plastic rice without explaining how these examples connect. Use topic sentences to group related points and clearer references to show what “this” or “they” refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “imported goods,” “locally produced,” “chemicals,” “wellbeing,” and “availability.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some phrases, such as “maintain persons’ health and finances,” show an attempt to express broader consequences. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “goods,” “things,” and “products,” while several word-choice and spelling errors reduce precision: “survay,” “everthing,” “artifically,” “suger,” and “avaliability.” Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “save them for longer time” and “cost cheaper.” Build a more precise vocabulary for food production and consumer choices, and check spelling and common word combinations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “Their body will stay fit if they are consuming…” and a concession in the conclusion. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and plurals occur across the response. For example, “One of the main reason” should use a plural noun, and “imported goods nowadays contains” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “this can contributes,” the verb form after “can” is incorrect; “people uses” and “rice are” also show agreement difficulties. Some sentences combine several claims, making these errors more noticeable. Practise checking the subject and verb in each clause, and use a mix of shorter accurate sentences and carefully controlled complex ones.
