Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify a position—“this trend is constructive”—and briefly introduce two possible reasons: local goods may be inexpensive and available, and buying them may support businesses and the economy. However, the response does not adequately answer either question. The reasons are only mentioned, not explained or supported with examples, and the positive-versus-negative judgement is not developed. The response also stops after an introduction and is 181 words below the required minimum, leaving the task substantially incomplete. To improve, explain why consumers prefer local goods, develop your view with specific consequences, and support each main point with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic overall shape: it introduces the topic, mentions contrasting views, and states your opinion. The phrase “While … Others argue …” signals a contrast, and “this essay will explore both sides” indicates an intended direction. However, there is no development beyond this opening, so the reader cannot follow a complete line of reasoning or see how the ideas connect. The contrast is also not clearly organised into separate points. Build a clear sequence with an introduction, developed body paragraphs and a conclusion; use each paragraph to explain one reason or evaluate one consequence, with linking phrases that show the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “local products,” “international products,” “inexpensive,” and “support business and economy.” The phrase “constructive development” also communicates your positive view. However, the range is narrow because the response is very brief, and several choices or spellings reduce accuracy: “freasness” appears to be an attempt at “freshness,” while “dominance of local products over the international products” does not precisely describe consumers choosing local goods instead of imports. “Widely available any time” is also an awkward expression. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “locally produced goods,” “imported products,” and “support local businesses,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a complex opening sentence and a contrast structure with “While,” and your main position is expressed in a complete clause. However, control is inconsistent even in this short response. In “it support business and economy,” the verb does not agree with the singular subject, and the nouns need appropriate determiners or plural forms. The sentence beginning “While a few people believe…” is not completed with a clearly balanced main clause, and the capitalisation and spacing around “Others,” “I n,” and “This” are inaccurate. Practise forming complete sentences with clear subject–verb agreement, and proofread punctuation and capital letters. Developing a wider range of accurate sentence patterns will make your argument easier to follow.
