Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that nowadays consumers are more choosing to buy goods that are grown or make in their local area instead of buying imported goods.

Firstly, People are supporting the local economy and helping local producers and businesses grow more. And the local businesses are make goods with more caution and grow food without more chemically. for example, I usually go to buy vegitable on every sunday before i went to walmart, freshco and the vegitable start getting rotten to fast like in 3/4 days, but now i go to local farm the grow thier own vegitable and a person can pick also from farm if they wish and now the vegitable is good for more than one week.

On the other hand, some people like to have goods that are imported because it mave have sounded expensvie. They do not trust local packaging goods or product they think if it is locally made it is not made properly and big company exported products are the best. They still believe that imported goods are more effective or more in common and trust worthy. For example, one of my friend started using shampoo from krestan that is madein london she usaully order in bulk and store it as she run out and it take time to reorder it but on the other side of friend is using shampoo made by a old lady living in her nebiourhood and both of there is look like same, smell of the shampoo is simliar and the kerstine shampoo is expensive compartviliy

At last, i think it is postivie trend as we are helping our people more to grow and supporting our self.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you suggest that consumers want to support local businesses and value locally grown food, and you state that the trend is positive. The farm example gives your first reason a personal, relevant illustration. However, the explanation of why people choose local goods is limited, and the paragraph about imported products shifts towards describing consumer doubts rather than clearly explaining the reasons behind the growing preference for local goods. Your final opinion is clear but brief, and the claim that local businesses make goods more carefully is not developed with evidence. To strengthen the response, explain the main reasons more directly and extend each with a clear consequence or example that supports your positive view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to reasons, a contrasting view and a conclusion. Connectors such as “Firstly” and “On the other hand” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the first body paragraph combines economic support, production quality and a long shopping example without clearly separating these points. The second paragraph’s comparison between two shampoos is also hard to track, particularly when the people and products are referred to as “one of my friend” and “other side of friend.” Use clearer topic sentences, divide explanations from examples, and make references explicit. A more direct link between each paragraph and your final positive position would also improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “local economy,” “local producers,” “imported goods” and “trust worthy,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, word-form and spelling errors make parts of the response difficult to understand, such as “more choosing,” “goods that are grown or make,” “chemically,” and “expensvie.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “the vegetable is good for more than one week” and “made with more caution.” Aim to use accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise expressions for freshness, production methods and consumer confidence would help you explain your ideas clearly without relying on repeated general terms such as “goods” and “good.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “For example” that describes your shopping experience. However, the range is limited, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur frequently enough to make some ideas hard to follow. Examples include “businesses are make goods,” “a person can pick also,” and “one of my friend started using.” Several sentences run together, especially the long farm example and the shampoo comparison, with punctuation that does not clearly mark the relationships between clauses. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea at a time, then add subordinate clauses using forms such as “because” or “although.” Check subject–verb agreement and past and present verb forms when editing.
