Student answer (Band 6.0)

The trend of purchasing products from the local market is increasing significantly. Nowadays people are preferring to buy items made from the local industry rather than imported items. In this essay I will discuss the reasons behind making it a positive trend.

Purchasing the domestic products has numerous benefits, the biggest advantage is that it boosts the overall economy of the country. Money flows locally in the same financial system without ever leaving the circle. This also supports the cottage industry and create employments for the residents of the area. Increasing demand of the local goods compel the industrialists to make quality products that can be exported. This will generate revenue for the country. For example, Sialkot is famous for its top-quality surgical and sports items. These goods are exported worldwide and has a made a name for themselves because of their quality and reliability.

Moreover, the locally made items are much cheaper and economical than imported goods. Importing Items from the international market will add extra shipping charges making the overall prices on the higher end. Excessive imports weakens the financial system of a country because money gets traded for the products. Furthermore, this damages the local industry. For example, people like to consume soft drinks like Pepsi and Coca cola over locally made beverages like Cola Next, this weakens their market presence, affecting the local industry.

In conclusion, to boost our economy and generate more revenue we should support our local brands. This will benefit us on both individual and national level. Keeping above discussion in view, I reckon this is a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you give reasons for choosing local goods, including support for the economy and lower prices, and clearly conclude that this is a positive trend. The Sialkot example helps illustrate how local production can build export revenue and reputation. However, the reasons for consumers’ choices are not always fully explained: the discussion focuses more on the benefits to the country than on why individual buyers prefer local products. The point about imports weakening the financial system is also asserted rather than clearly developed, and the soft-drink example could explain more directly how consumer preference affects local producers. Develop these links to make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct supporting points, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing is generally logical, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, several links feel mechanical, and the first body paragraph moves quickly from local employment to exports without fully showing how one idea leads to the next. The opening sentence also promises to discuss reasons for a positive trend, rather than clearly previewing both the reasons for consumer choice and your evaluation. Use more precise transitions and develop connections between claims and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “domestic products,” “cottage industry,” “revenue,” “shipping charges,” and “market presence.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and some less common terms are attempted. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or repetitive: “create employments” is not natural, “money gets traded for the products” is unclear, and “on the higher end” is imprecise in this context. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “Importing Items.” Aim for more natural combinations and precise wording, especially when explaining economic effects. For example, describe money as “remaining within the domestic economy” and say that higher transport costs “raise the final price.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “without,” and “that,” and your meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, but they rarely prevent understanding. For instance, “the biggest advantage is that it boosts…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma; use a full stop or semicolon. There are also agreement and verb-form errors in “supports the cottage industry and create employments,” “demand … compel,” and “goods … has a made a name.” The sentence beginning “Excessive imports weakens” has a subject–verb agreement error. Review agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use varied structures.
