Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, some individuals start to spend more money on local products instaed of imported goods due to numerous reasons. In my opinion, this strategy has a plenty of positive trend on both either consumer or country. In this essay, we will discuss both statements with proper explanation.

The first and major reason is the lower tax or tax free goods. To explain, tax plays a vital role in these days and customers have to pay more for the imported products, but at the same time, they have other choice for same products, which is produced in their local areas, that is a way cheaper as compared to imported products. For example, if indian people want to eat chocolate and they have choices Cadbury or Nestle. They would choose Nestle because Cadbury is expensive in price due to haigher imported taxes.

I believe people are influencing by the advertisement of local goods on social media or national television by government. To explain, national organizations are trying to promote local products through campaigns, social media or newspaper, especially the youngsters because buying local goods could not only help to boost the GDP growth of the nation, but also to minimise the unemployment rate of the country. Hence, local companies would try to expand in other cities as well with the help of positive response.

To sum up, local goods are always cheaper than imported ones due to higher tariff on export and import. So, local products are more in-demand. It would help in generating new job opportunities for the local people and this would directly help to boost the economy of that nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the prompt: you suggest that lower prices encourage local purchases and argue that the trend benefits the country through employment and economic growth. Your overall positive position is clear, especially in the introduction and conclusion. However, the reasons are not developed evenly. The discussion of tax is supported by an example, but the Cadbury/Nestle comparison is confusing and does not clearly establish which product is local or imported. The point about advertising is also asserted rather than explained in detail, and the response gives limited consideration to benefits for consumers beyond price. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a specific, accurate example, and make the positive evaluation more explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a concluding summary. The ideas generally move from reasons for buying local goods to their effects on the economy, and signposts such as “To explain” and “To sum up” help readers follow the discussion. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always clear. For example, the paragraph beginning “I believe people are influencing by the advertisement” shifts from advertising to employment and GDP without fully connecting those points. The introduction also promises to “discuss both statements,” although the task asks for reasons and an evaluation. Use more precise links between cause and effect, and make each paragraph’s central point and supporting explanation work together.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “imported products,” “campaigns,” “unemployment rate,” “tariff” and “job opportunities.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt some less common terms. However, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions limit precision, such as “a plenty of positive trend,” “higher imported taxes,” and “more in-demand.” There are also spelling errors, including “instaed” and “haigher,” which reduce the accuracy of the writing. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe local goods as “less expensive than imported alternatives” and say that local purchasing can “support employment and economic growth,” rather than relying on awkward or imprecise phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional example (“if Indian people want to eat chocolate…”) and a clause explaining the economic effects of local purchasing. The main ideas are usually understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms recur. For example, “customers have to pay more for the imported products, but… they have other choice” has a number error and an awkwardly joined contrast; “people are influencing by the advertisement” uses an incorrect passive form; and “which is produced in their local areas” does not agree with the plural “products.” Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, singular and plural forms, and complete sentence structure while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
