Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, a few individuals prefer to buy local products rather than international products. This is happening because people have more faith and trust in local business owners and they are willing to support them. I believe it is a positive trend since it promotes the local brands and provides a source of income to the local companies.

There are several reasons of this trend but one of the main argument supporting this behaviour is that people have more faith in the local shops and products especially in terms of produce and fresh products. They are more healthier and fresh as compared to imported stored produces in the refrigerators. They have trust in the home grown foods as it is free from harsh storage chemicals which increases the shelf life of the products. For instance, home grown fresh vegetables are more healthier than imported frozen vegetables because they do not need to store for a longer periods of time to transport to another countries. As a result, people likes to support local farming and businesses as they provide them with the fresh and healthier choices.

One compelling argument in favor of supporting this trend is that it promotes local brands and also help small local businesses to survive. Since, significant rise of choosing imported foods by people causes decrease in the income of the local business owners which cause them to shut down their businesses. However, this shift help these buinesses to survive and earn appropriate income in the long run. For instance international cheaper brands in the market provides cheaper buying options to consumers which leads to close of local businesses that provides high quality locally produced products.

In conclusion, I personally believe that it is a positive trend as supporting local businesses helps to strenghthen bonds between people in a society as well as boost country's economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: you explain that consumers trust local produce and want to support local businesses, and you clearly state that you see this as positive. The examples about fresh vegetables and small businesses make the response relevant. This meets the task well overall, but the reasons are not equally developed. The claim that local food is healthier and free from storage chemicals is presented broadly, without qualification or evidence, and the economic point is partly framed around the harm caused by imported goods rather than explaining in detail how local purchasing benefits communities. To strengthen the response, explain each cause and consequence more precisely and develop the examples so they directly support your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction gives your position, two body paragraphs present reasons, and the conclusion restates your view. The progression from consumer trust to support for local businesses is easy to follow, and phrases such as “For instance” help signal examples. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. “There are several reasons” promises a broader discussion, while the paragraph mainly develops one reason; “Since” begins a sentence fragment after a full stop, and “However” does not clearly mark a contrast with the preceding idea. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph’s central point explicit and using linking expressions only when the relationship between ideas is clear. More precise referencing would also help readers follow cause and effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “local products,” “imported,” “shelf life,” “local farming,” and “income,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “home grown foods” and “locally produced products.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “stored produces” is unnatural, “more healthier” is not a suitable comparative form, and “close of local businesses” does not express the intended idea naturally. Spelling errors such as “buinesses” and “strenghthen” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; this would make your vocabulary more precise and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “as,” and “which,” and the overall meaning remains understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as “I believe it is a positive trend since it promotes the local brands.” However, errors in agreement, comparison, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “people likes” should be “people like,” “this shift help” should be “this shift helps,” and “more healthier” uses an incorrect comparative structure. The sentence beginning “Since, significant rise…” is incomplete, while “they do not need to store” has an unclear subject. Work on checking subject–verb agreement and building complete sentences, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
