Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the recent times, many end users are increasingly choosing to buy locally produced goods over imported ones. This is so because of the accessibility and cost effectiveness of the goods. In my opinion, I believe it is of great benefit to the people and the government.

Many people prefer locally made products over foreign ones because they are less expensive and easily available. Because these goods are locally sourced, the cost of production, transportation and tax incurred from the manufacturing point to the consumers are less thereby making them an affordable option to many people than the former which comes at higher prices influenced by the tax and its exportation cost. For example, the cost of locally grown rice in Nigeria is quite affordable to many Nigeria homes. Furthermore, one do not need to travel far from their homes to get a hold on these products. Since they are home-made, they are far easy to get to people everywhere in the nation including the remote areas. For example, Nigeria wax material are cost effective and available across the nation for anyone that needs it at any time to procure with ease.

These can be perceived as positive because it promotes local market and brings revenue to the government. When people constantly buy these goods, constructive feedback are gotten which will motivate the producers to make products of good and high quality to meet the market demand, thereby promoting the product and creating more market for it. Also, the constant sales contributes to the nations gross domestic profits as the government will receive more tax from the growth of these goods across the nation. For example, the Aba made products in Nigeria previously known to be of low quality is now making wave in the Nigeria market with undeniable good qualities such that some of them are mistaken for a foreign product. These changes seen stem from constructive feedbacks.

In conclusion, the increase in the use of locally made goods are as a result of its practicality. This trend has greatly improved local market and generated income to the government and as such should be encouraged.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both questions directly: you explain the preference through affordability and availability, and clearly judge the trend positively. The examples of locally grown rice, wax material and Aba-made products make the discussion relevant and help extend your main points. Your position is also consistent in the introduction and conclusion. This fits a response that covers all parts and supports its ideas, although some claims are broad or not fully explained. For instance, the link between buying local goods and increased government revenue is asserted rather than explored, and the point about producer feedback could be developed with a clearer explanation of how it improves quality. More precise qualification and fuller development of these links would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph on reasons, one on positive effects, and a conclusion. The progression from affordability and access to market and government benefits is easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “Furthermore,” “Also,” and “In conclusion,” and examples generally appear alongside the points they support. To make the organisation more fluent, reduce reliance on explicit connectors and clarify links between sentences. For example, “These can be perceived as positive” has an unclear reference, and the long sentence beginning “Because these goods are locally sourced” contains several connected ideas that would be easier to follow if divided. More precise referencing and smoother transitions would add the flexibility expected at a stronger level.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “locally sourced,” “transportation,” “market demand,” and “gross domestic profits.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the examples give the discussion some specificity. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, but several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “get a hold on these products,” “making wave,” and “constructive feedbacks.” “End users” is also less natural than “consumers” in this context. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common collocations as complete phrases and check whether a noun is countable or whether a verb naturally takes the preposition used.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including clauses introduced by “because,” “since,” and “such that.” The meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “one do not need” should be “one does not need,” while “the increase … are” should be “the increase … is.” In “Nigeria homes,” the plural possessive form is needed, and “the cost … are less” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Some sentences also become difficult to control when several clauses are joined, particularly the sentence beginning “Because these goods are locally sourced.” Review agreement and sentence boundaries, then practise complex sentences that remain grammatically complete.
