Student answer (Band 6.0)

Globalization is increasing day by day. Some people are preferring to buy products from their local markets, rather than imported products. There are several reasons behind this viewpoint. From my perspective, it is a positive development because, through domestic markets people buy healthy goods. I will elaborate reasons along with relevant examples in the following paragraphs.

The main reason why people like to purchase local things is that these products are healthy because they are fresh. For example, organic seasonal vegetables and fruits are grown in local areas. Wheras imported products are frozen and sellers preserve their products by using preservations to enhance the shelf life of such products, which are unhealthy for individuals' health. Even these preservations decrease the nutrients of the goods. As a result, it might causes serious health issues. To protect their health they are being health conscious and choosing seasonal products. Furthermore, some people do grocery shopping in their areas because they want to raise the local economy. If they buy products from their local sellers, rather than overseas goods, which means they are giving money to their local operators. This way they not only help to make their community strong but also they build a sense of unity.

I strongly believe that it is a positive development because individuals' choice of buying local products shows that people are concerned about their health and their community. These days, many people experience serious health issues such as obesity, which can be solved by using healthy diet and through exercises. As people choose products from such markets which are fresh, organic and full with nutrients, means they are being serious about their health issues. Slowly they can work on their obesity and become fit. Morever, if their community boosts their economy, then ultimately their growth will increases. For example, if anytime sellers earn more profit, they might spend extra money to improve the infrastructure of their community such as building a park in their local area. Local individuals can walk, run or can do exercise, which may build a healthy community.

In conclusion, local products are popular because these are full with nutrients and people focus to buy such products from their local area because they want to boost their local economy. Therefore, it can be considered a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons for choosing local goods—freshness and support for the local economy—and clearly presents this as a positive trend. The examples about seasonal produce and sellers investing in community facilities are relevant and help explain the position. This meets the task well, while the explanation is not equally developed throughout: the health argument is repeated, and the claim that imported goods are frozen and preserved, and therefore unhealthy, is broad and would benefit from qualification or evidence. The economic reason is also introduced but could be explored more fully, for example by explaining how local spending supports jobs or small businesses. More balanced development and precise support would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate development of reasons and benefits, and a conclusion that restates the position. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “As a result,” and “For example” help guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The sentence beginning “If they buy products from their local sellers…” is an incomplete conditional construction, and the transition from local purchasing to obesity and exercise is not fully explained. Repetition of the health point also limits progression. To improve, make each paragraph’s central idea explicit, connect examples directly to that idea, and use referencing and transitions more precisely rather than relying on repeated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

There is adequate vocabulary for discussing the topic, including “local economy,” “seasonal vegetables,” “shelf life,” “nutrients,” and “infrastructure.” These choices allow the writer to explain both personal and community benefits, and some less common terms are attempted. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “using preservations,” “full with nutrients,” “focus to buy,” and “their growth will increases.” “Products” and “local” are also repeated frequently, which reduces flexibility. Spelling slips such as “Wheras” and “Morever” further affect accuracy. Aim to learn common word partnerships and vary repeated nouns with suitable alternatives, while checking spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex forms, including reason clauses, conditionals, and relative clauses, as in “because these products are healthy because they are fresh” and “which may build a healthy community.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain across the response. Examples include “it might causes” instead of “it might cause,” “their growth will increases” instead of “their growth will increase,” and the incomplete construction “If they buy products …, which means…”. There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, particularly in longer sentences that combine several ideas. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms after modal verbs, and the structure of conditional sentences; splitting overloaded sentences would also improve control.
