Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Ravneet,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to exprees my wish to move from my current job position to the medical department of our company.
At present, I am performing same duties of receptionist that I have started 2 years ago. Though, I have learnt a lot from this role. I feel this position has polished my communication skills, customer attending and problem solving abilities. I have developed the level of patience over phone calls as well. I have become a good listener.
I think, I can play a role of pharmacy assistant in proficient way because of my related study and the skills that I have acquired being a receptionist. Customer interaction and working long shifts would be my strength. The company can get a trustworthy pharmacy assistant in me.
I could avail other opportunities in different firms but the bonding with the helpful staff is enough to bond me here. Personally, the company culture suits me the most.
I would appreciate your understanding.
Yours faithfully,
Zorawar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose: you explain what you have gained as a receptionist, propose a move to the medical department, and give reasons for staying with the company. The examples of communication, patience, listening and problem-solving skills support your request, while your related studies provide a relevant reason you could succeed as a pharmacy assistant. Your explanation of the company’s benefit is present, especially in “a trustworthy pharmacy assistant,” but it is less developed than your account of your own skills. Explain more specifically how your experience would help the department or its customers. The reason for remaining is clear, though the reference to staff and company culture could be expanded slightly to make your commitment more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you state your request, describe what you have learned, explain how you could contribute in another role, and give reasons for staying. Separate paragraphs make the different points easy to identify, and the opening and closing are suitable for a formal letter. Linking expressions such as “Though” and “because of” help connect ideas, although the transition into “Though, I have learnt…” is not fully smooth, and “I think” followed by a comma interrupts the sentence unnecessarily. The final paragraph also moves quickly from other opportunities to your attachment to the company. A more explicit link between your experience and the pharmacy department’s needs would make the progression feel more fully connected.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including relevant terms such as “communication skills,” “problem solving abilities,” “pharmacy assistant,” and “company culture.” These choices make your intended role and reasons understandable. You also attempt more specific expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural: “customer attending” does not clearly express the skill you mean, and “the bonding … is enough to bond me here” repeats the same word awkwardly. There is also a spelling error in “exprees.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording, particularly when describing your customer-service experience and commitment to the company. This would make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “I think I can play a role … because of my related study” and “I could avail other opportunities … but the bonding … is enough to bond me here.” The meaning remains clear, and several sentences are controlled. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “I am performing same duties of receptionist,” the articles and sentence structure need attention; “I have started 2 years ago” also uses an unsuitable tense for a job that began in the past and continues now. The opening of “Though, I have learnt…” is not a complete, well-connected construction, and commas after “I think” and “Though” are unnecessary. Review articles, tense choice and punctuation to improve accuracy.
