Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Manager,

Hope you are doing well.

I am writing to express my interest in the new job opening in our marketing department, currently I am working in the Tech department as a Supervisor position from last two years but now I am thinking to bring little change and gain the experience in other department too.

I have worked on my skills and learned how to handle task individually and how to work as a team member. I also got trained to find the solutions of problems and rectify errors in the programming field.

If I am going to move in the marketing department, it would be beneficial for company because during this time I have maintain good contacts with customers and I can easily confess them for them selling. I did my study in the marketing field so I will be more comfortable in this job.

I really do not want to leave this company because it gives me different opportunity to learn everyday something new. I would love to learn more in the future see myself in the reputed position in the upcoming years.

Look forward for your response.

Yours Sincerely,

Rimz

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly stated what you learned in your current role, explained the benefits of your transfer to the marketing department, and provided a valid reason for wanting to stay within the company. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, some ideas could be more fully developed; for instance, the explanation of how your technical background specifically aids marketing could be more detailed to make a stronger case for your transfer. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'If I am going to move' and 'because', though the flow between sentences could be improved with a wider variety of linking words. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, but the overall progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task. You use work-related terms like 'department', 'career development', and 'reputed position'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'confess them for them selling' (likely meaning 'persuade them to purchase') and 'rectify errors in the programming field'. These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and precise professional terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'currently I am working' (a comma splice), 'from last two years' (should be 'for the last two years'), and 'it gives me different opportunity' (missing article). Additionally, 'Look forward for your response' is missing the subject 'I'. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over verb tenses and prepositions will help improve your accuracy.
