Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I am writing to request a transfer from the Marketing Department to the Sales Department.
I have been working in the Marketing Department for the past four months. During this time, I have gained valuable experience in promoting a wide range of products through both digital marketing strategies and in-person promotional activities. This role has allowed me to develop strong communication, teamwork, and customer engagement skills.
While working at the company, I enrolled in an online sales course to broaden my professional knowledge. Through this training, I discovered a genuine interest in sales and realized that my strengths are better suited to this field. As a result, I am eager to pursue a career in sales and contribute to the company's success in a more meaningful way.
I believe that transferring to the Sales Department would allow me to make better use of my abilities while continuing to develop professionally under the guidance of your experienced sales team. I am confident that my enthusiasm, dedication, and willingness to learn will enable me to contribute to increasing the company's sales and achieving its business objectives.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my manager and colleagues, who have always been supportive, professional, and encouraging. Their guidance has made my experience at the company both rewarding and motivating, and I sincerely hope to continue growing within the organization.
I would be grateful if you could consider my request for a departmental transfer. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Shubham

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points clearly and effectively. You successfully describe your current learning, explain the benefits of a transfer, and express your commitment to the company. However, there is a minor inconsistency regarding the timeline: the prompt states you have been in your job for two years, but your letter mentions you have been in the Marketing Department for only four months. While this does not impede the overall message, it is important to align your content with the prompt's constraints to ensure full task achievement. The tone is professional and appropriate for a formal business letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The letter is well-structured with a clear logical progression. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the request, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'While working at the company,' 'As a result,' and 'In addition' (implied through structure), which helps the reader follow your argument easily. The opening and closing are standard and appropriate for a formal letter. The paragraphing is logical and contributes to the overall clarity of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 8.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a professional context. Phrases like 'broaden my professional knowledge,' 'genuine interest,' and 'achieving its business objectives' are used accurately and effectively. The language is natural and precise, showing an ability to use collocations correctly. There are no significant errors in word choice or spelling, and the vocabulary is varied enough to convey your points clearly without repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.5
Your grammar is strong throughout the letter. You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively, such as 'I am confident that my enthusiasm... will enable me to contribute...' and 'I would be grateful if you could consider...'. The control over verb tenses is consistent, and punctuation is used correctly. There are no noticeable grammatical errors, and the sentences are well-constructed, making the text easy to read and professional in tone.
