Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Aviaane,
I hope you are doing well, I am writing this letter to express my intrest in moving into diffrent department in order to grow further more in my career.
My current job has given me a lot of learnings in term of leadership skills, operational skills and more. Over past two year I have faced a lots of challenges and I learned to overcome them with confidence. The reason I want to transfer into diffrent department is that i recently got to know that Marketing department is hiring for a teamlead position and now i feel confident that if I move to that department as a teamlead I would be able to take more responsiblities and work. Transfering me to the teamlead position would save company a lots of time and money in terms of hiring process. I would not like to leave the company becausew I have been working with the company for a long time now, and the company has given me a lot interms of opportunities to learn and exposur to real business envirenment where i could apply my skills to excell. It would be great if you can write me a letter of recommendation.
Regards,
Om

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, suggest how the company benefits from your transfer, and explain your desire to remain with the firm. The tone is appropriate for a professional request. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of how the company benefits could be more specific regarding how your current skills would translate to the Marketing department. While the task is fully addressed, the depth of the arguments is slightly basic, which prevents it from reaching the highest band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to your background, the specific request, and finally your reasons for staying. Paragraphing is present, though the letter is quite short and could benefit from clearer separation between the introduction, body, and closing. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'The reason I want to...' and 'It would be great if...', but the flow is occasionally interrupted by repetitive sentence structures. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'operational skills', 'leadership', and 'recommendation'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'intrest', 'diffrent', 'responsiblities', 'Transfering', and 'envirenment'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional quality of the letter. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these spelling mistakes limits the score. To reach a higher band, focus on proofreading for common spelling patterns and incorporating more precise professional collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing this letter to express my interest...' and 'The reason I want to transfer... is that...'. There are several grammatical slips, including missing articles ('the Marketing department', 'the company'), subject-verb agreement issues, and punctuation errors (e.g., comma splices in the opening sentence). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on article usage and sentence boundary punctuation will significantly improve your accuracy.
