Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Mr. Singh,

I am writing to you regarding the in company transfer for new career opportunities.

I have been working with the company for last 5 year, and I am working in the manufacture department. I have learned that how to build different type of truck bodies, and how to collaborate with co-workers. I have gained team spirit, and confident.

I assure you that I could be a good asset if you move me to the sales department. Since I have knowledge about the every thing what we made, it is easy for me to not only explain the customers, but also understand their requirements. Furthermore, I have good communication skills, which will help me to deal with customers.

Honestly speaking, I love to work in the company because I have a good relationship with many employee, and it is not far from my house. Therefore, if you could transfer me to sales department, I would be very thankful to you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: it describes your current learning, suggests benefits to the company, and explains why you wish to stay. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention gaining 'team spirit' and 'confident', these points could be expanded with specific examples of your contributions. The suggestion regarding the sales department is relevant, but the explanation of how your manufacturing knowledge benefits sales could be more detailed to fully demonstrate your value. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Therefore', and 'Since', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some referencing is slightly awkward, such as 'the every thing what we made'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to communicate your intentions clearly. You use some relevant professional terms like 'career development', 'transfer', and 'requirements'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in company transfer' (should be 'internal company transfer') and 'I have gained... confident' (should be 'confidence'). Additionally, 'the every thing what we made' is non-standard phrasing. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise professional collocations would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the manufacture department'), verb tenses ('I am working' instead of 'I have been working'), and word forms ('I have gained... confident'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'I have learned that how to build'. Despite these errors, the message is consistently understandable. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentence structures are constructed with greater accuracy.
