Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my willingness to change my department in your company as a part of the career progression.
Presently, I am working as a dispatcher in the CSR departmant of your company from last two years. In last two years, I had learnt entire MS office, Jira Software, and good communication skills as well.
But now I wanted to work as a Office Admin in the Sales department of your company. I have heard that our present Office Admin is going to retire soon. I think with the help of my skills, I can greatly help the company. Also the company does not need to spend money on hiring and training, as I am already familiar about the work.
I love the company's working style, culture and support to the employees, due to which I am not considering to leave the company.
I hope that you will conisder myself for the promotion.
Yours Sincerely,
Sagar Malhi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: describing your current learning, suggesting benefits for the company, and explaining your desire to stay. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention that the company would save money on training, you could have expanded on how your existing knowledge of company culture would lead to a more seamless transition. The letter is clear and the purpose is well-defined, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5, which rounds to a 6.0 for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific point from the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Also' and 'due to which', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more distinct. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between your current role and your future aspirations is smoother. The overall progression is clear, justifying a Band 6.5, which rounds to a 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'career progression', 'dispatcher', and 'familiar'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'departmant' and 'conisder', and some slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'familiar about the work' (should be 'familiar with'). While you communicate your meaning effectively, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and lacks the more sophisticated, precise collocations that would push the score into the 7.0+ range. Focusing on more precise professional terminology will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'from last two years' (should be 'for the last two years') and 'I had learnt' (should be 'I have learned'). Additionally, 'I wanted to work' should be 'I would like to work' to maintain a formal, polite tone. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more error-free sentences and ensure consistent use of verb tenses when discussing past experience versus future goals.
