Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ms. Fraser,
I am writing to request a move me in the different department. I have been working in the overnight department for the last two years. I believe this change is necessary for my career development.
I have learned a lot from the overnight department, such as team management, time management, leadership skills, and target achievement. Therefore, I am ready to use my knowledge in the daytime team.
In addition, the company will benefit from this change as I have already gained knowledge and I have graduated with a management degree. Thus, this would help me to apply my abilities to the company's success and the betterment of the daytime team.
Moreover, I have got my first job with the company, and management has put faith in me. So, I would like to enhance my skills and use them for the company's success.
I look forward to your prompt response at your earliest convenience.
Yours sincerely,
Chamko Laundry

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, explain the benefits of your transfer, and express your commitment to the company. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how the company would benefit is quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples of how your management degree or leadership skills would specifically improve the daytime team's operations. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter, and the purpose is clear from the outset.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific point from the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'Therefore,' and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. While these are effective, the flow is somewhat mechanical. To improve, try to vary your transitions and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is sufficient and helps to structure the letter effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your request clearly. You use relevant professional terms like 'career development,' 'team management,' and 'target achievement.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'request a move me in the different department,' which should be 'request a transfer to a different department.' To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'company's success' used twice in close proximity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'request a move me in the' is grammatically incorrect, and 'I have got my first job' is slightly informal for this context. There are also minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and more precise sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
