Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to express my interest about career development in Dispatching.

My name is Sandhu, and I have been working in this organization as a front desk employee for the past two years. I have gained some valuable experience regarding to logistics, customer service, and load board. I have been enjoying my position while working here. The staff is very supportive and kind. Although I am satisfied with all company benefits as well as my salary, I want to upgrade my job position in other field owing to better carrier advancement. As you may aware, I am performing similar duties of dispatcher since, last on year. Therefore, I could perform multitask jobs and company could get benefit from labor cost. Moreover, I want to persue my future with organization due to its well reputation.

I would kindly request you to consider my request. I hope a positive response from you.

Thankyou for your time and consideration.

Yours Sincerely,

Sandhu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, explain the benefits of your transfer, and express your commitment to the company. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention 'logistics' and 'customer service', you could have provided more specific examples of your achievements to make a more persuasive case for your transfer. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, though some phrasing is slightly informal or awkward, such as 'I want to upgrade my job position'. Overall, the task is addressed adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure, moving from the purpose of the letter to your experience, the benefits of the move, and finally your commitment to the company. Paragraphing is used, though the body of the letter is somewhat compressed into one large paragraph, which makes it harder to read. You use some cohesive devices like 'Although', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore', but the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between your current duties and the request for a transfer could be smoother to improve the overall progression of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'organization', 'logistics', and 'advancement'. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and collocation. For example, 'interest about' should be 'interest in', 'regarding to' is incorrect, and 'carrier advancement' is a misspelling of 'career'. Additionally, 'performing similar duties of dispatcher' is slightly unnatural. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and common collocations in a professional context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional 'If' or 'Although' clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('the company', 'a dispatcher'), prepositions ('in Dispatching' should be 'to the Dispatching department'), and verb forms ('I could perform multitask jobs'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors, such as the unnecessary comma in 'since, last on year'. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow your request without significant difficulty.
