Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
Hope you are doing well, I am writing this letter to express my views on transferring to different department in your company.
Today, I am thrilled to express my gratitude for providing me with such a wonderful opportunity and allowing me to be part of the team. I have gained a lot of practical as well as theorical knowledge like the understanding how AI works and also learned values like positivity and to stay motivated.
I believe, transferring me into Payroll Automation team will be extremely benefital to the company. There are several ways that combination of Payroll experience and my current knowledge of AI will make the work faster and cost effective.
I would like to continue in the your company because I feel that I have gain a lot of experience, skills and value which has not only increase my confidence but also helped me grow personally and professionally.
Hoping for a positive response.
Thanks & Regards,
Reshma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what you have learned, suggest how the company would benefit from your transfer, and explain your desire to remain with the firm. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of how your AI knowledge would benefit the Payroll Automation team could be more specific to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the potential value added. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the ideas could be expanded further to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the task. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between ideas could be smoother; phrases like 'I believe' and 'I would like to' are functional but mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and referencing expressions to connect sentences more fluidly, which would help the progression of your argument feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional development', 'practical knowledge', and 'cost effective'. There are, however, some spelling errors ('theorical' instead of 'theoretical', 'benefital' instead of 'beneficial') and minor collocation issues, such as 'gain a lot of experience' (should be 'gained'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise vocabulary. To reach a higher band, focus on using less common lexical items more accurately and ensuring correct spelling throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'transferring me into Payroll Automation team' (missing 'the'), 'I have gain' (incorrect verb tense), and 'the your company' (unnecessary article). These errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while ensuring they remain error-free will help you achieve a higher band in this criterion.
